Two of swimming's more colourful, controversial, names are in action tonight. And both could be winners too.

The women's 100m breaststroke final (02:54 BST) sees Russian Yulia Efimova go for gold just weeks after being cleared to compete at all.

The 24-year-old was banned between 2013 and 2015 for taking steroids, and tested positive for meldonium in March of this year. But here she is...

And in the men's 200m freestyle final (02:21 BST)Sun Yang of China is a real force.

Sun was banned in 2014 after he tested positive for the banned stimulant trimetazidine, while he has also spent time in jail for crashing a car that he had driven without a licence.

It's safe to say that neither Sun or Efimova are particularly popular with our BBC pundits..

His last Olympics may have been back in 2008 but Mark Foster is still big news in the international swim world!

He's still got speed, but not quite quick enough on his feet when attempting to run the gauntlet of quote-hunting journos this evening ahead of the third night of Olympic swimming!

    Women's 200m freestyle semis

No medals up for grabs in our first races of the night but it's a star-studded line-up in the semis of the women's 200m free.

The first semi (02:03 BST) sees Missy Franklin in action. The 21-year-old won bronze in the world championships at this event and won four golds in London.

But semi-final two sees the biggest of big names in the pool. Katie Ledecky.

Only once in history as a woman won three freestyle golds at the same Olympics. Ledecky stormed the 400m last night, is nailed-on favourite for the 800, so this shorter distance is arguably her biggest test in Rio.

Also one to watch is Swede Sarah Sjostrom. She has already won gold in the 100m butterfly and has the strength to be a real force over four lengths.

Think you've had a manic Monday? Spare a thought for Katinka Hosszu.

The Hungarian took the 400m individual medley world record apart on Saturday night, and has two big swims in an hour tonight.

First, she goes for a medal in the 100m backstroke (02:30 BST).

And then it's chat to the media, a quick cup of tea (I presume) and then back in the pool for the 200m individual medley semi-final (03:36 BST).

When you're eagerly awaiting table tennis at gone 1am on a Monday night, you know you're in full Olympics mode.

Paul Drinkhall went to China at the age 11 to learn how the nation's players approached the game. How's that for dedication?

He said: "It was a real life experience and it really helped my table tennis in terms of getting quicker and better. I had a Chinese coach shortly after that and I worked with him until I was 22 or 23. So I have always had a big Chinese influence in my game and it has certainly helped me."

Well, I used to play in my mate's garage on a half-sized snooker table, that was converted to ping-pong by a 6x4 piece of plywood and a clip-on net. So we're basically kindred spirits...

GB's Paul Drinkhall has had a top-notch Olympics so far - becoming the first Briton reach the last 16 since 1992.

But he's going to have to have paddles of steel to get through to the quarter-finals.

Belarusian Vladimir Samsonov stands in his way - a man ranked ninth in the world, a world championship silver medallist and known as the Tai Chi Master in China because of his all-round ability.

Drinkhall, ranked 58th in the world, has his work cut out.

    Golf

"Hands up if you can't wait to be an Olympian?"

American golfer Matt Kuchar and his Team USA pals - Rickie Fowler, Patrick Reed and amateur cameraman Bubba Watson - are buzzing to be at Rio 2016. Not quite on Justin Rose levels, but then who is? Apart from Justin Rose of course.

The American team are all smiles as they tuck into what could be a massive slab of steak and sup a can of fizzy pop.

The golf tournament, returning this year after a 112-year absence, starts on Thursday.
