Full twist and double back on the last tumble. What a routine, Simone Biles - a true champion and leader of a great team.

No gymnast has gone from being world champion to winning the Olympics, I think she will do it this year.

What a fantastic final, some great gymnastics going on. This has been truly great.

USA did not disappoint and there will be talk if this is the greatest team ever.

This is like America's lap of honour. Simone Biles, smile pretty much tattooed on to her face, has brought the house down. Huge group hug at the end of it. The US are about to be confirmed as Olympic champions...

Russia have done enough for at least a bronze. The US have pretty much lapped the rest of the field and will stroll away with gold. Japan and China are still battling for the minor medals.

Beautiful. A special floor routine for Ali Raisman.

Quite frankly, the US are taking the mickey on the floor. Now it's Alexandra Raisman's turn to defy gravity. It's like watching a one-woman highlight reel.

The hockey stadium is suddenly full of bouncy Brazilians. The home fans are chuffed and that's because they've taken a shock lead against Britain.

It's a beautifully worked short corner that Stephane Smith converts.

GB are winless after two games so far - but this would be a new low.

Plenty of time to go though.

America's Lauren Hernandez, winking at the camera, as just illuminated with the floor with a dazzling and, frankly, cheeky routine. Smile wider than that Atlantic, more tumbles than a slinky down a staircase.

Down at the mixed zone, where the windsurfers are queuing up like cabs on a rank, Great Britain's Bryony Shaw looks disappointed with her day's sailing, where she finished her last race 12th to sit 10th overall. But she's not panicking. "The last race isn't what I wanted but I just have to race sensibly."The windsurfers are halfway through their regatta with six races plus a medal race to go but Shaw must remain in the top 10 to make it that far.

Picking Brazil out should be achievable here. Their kit is blinding.

Once again, the attendance is poor, probably around 25% full. The national anthem of the hosts isn't all too deafening, certainly the British players 10ft away won't be quaking.

There was tears in the Chinese camp. It looked like good news for Great Britain after a pretty poor floor routine, but it's still enough to edge past GB. With Russia, Japan and the USA still to come, it looks unlikely that a medal will be coming to these shores.

The sun is going down in Rio but we are not done.

Team GB's men are set for hockey action against the hosts at 22:00 BST. We should get a fair bit of noise and on paper, a first win for GB men in the tournament.

After a bus from canoe slalom I've bobbed into basketball to soak up some atmosphere as Turkey and Japan go through warm ups. A bit of Drake on the loudspeakers.  Hockey it is, hopefully they've got a bit of Deacon Blue on.

GB's Dempsey to lodge protestpublished at 21:44 British Summer Time 9 August 2016

GB's Nick Dempsey has lodged a protest after falling into the water and finishing 14th in the last race of the day.

The London 2012 silver medallist still leads the field by a point at the halfway stage after a brilliant regatta, having won three of the first four races

But after an altercation with Lithuanian windsurfer Juozas Bernotas at the top of the course, he told BBC Sport: "When the wind does like that, everything gets clustered and I thought they were going to call the race off. Someone caught me and I'm going to protest and hopefully get some places back."

If Dempsey wins his appeal he will be awarded an average of his points so far rather than those he earned for 14th.On his overall display, he added: "I'm leading at the Olympics so I'm happy about that. It's good to race from the front."
