So, with no Pele gracing the opening ceremony tonight, which other great Brazilian could light the cauldron?

The 1994 World Cup winners Romario or Ronaldo (the big boned one) maybe?

Or two-time F1 world champion Emerson Fittipaldi?

Or... erm. We're struggling already to be honest? Gustavo Kuerten is a name doing the rounds...

Give us some suggestions of which memorable Brazilians - sporting or non-sporting - could ignite the cauldron tonight.

Brazil's, nay, the world's footballing legend Pele has ruled himself out of lighting the Olympic cauldron in the Maracana.

The 75-year-old was rumoured to be favourite to perform the duty, which has previously been carried out by other sporting greats such as Muhammad Ali and Cathy Freeman.

"I'm not in physical condition to take part in the opening ceremony," he said.

Unless the great one is calling our bluff, it's left us guessing who could be lighting it up this evening.

    Cushion

That's it for the opening ceremony build-up until 23:30 BST. But if we've learned anything from the programming so far, it's that you guys love a sofa scattering.

Karen Henso: Loving the #bbcrio2016 build up tonight but I've become obsessed with the cushions. The blue & yellow ones on the left keep disappearing :-)

Emma Davis: Why do they keep moving the @BBCSport cushion on the sofa?!

timpoll1: loving the studio and backdrop. I want an Olympic cushion.. Xx 😃💖🇬🇧

  10. Any problems in Rio?published at 22:01 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Plenty.

Brazil is in a deep recession and political crisis, while protests marred the arrival of the Olympic torch in Rio on Wednesday.

A New Zealand jiu-jitsu athlete claims he was kidnapped in Rio, which arguably suggests he's not going to win a medal, while Chinese state media criticised security after women fencers were robbed and shooting team members found "unauthorised payments" on their credit cards.

Brazil has drafted in 85,000 security personnel from 55 countries who will be stationed at the sport venues, Olympic Village, airports and main roads - almost twice as many as were at the 2012 London Olympics. There is also 200km of security fencing being used.

More than 500,000 tourists are expected to come to the Games and organisers say more than one million of the 7.5 million tickets remain unsold.

    Darren Campbell
Former British sprinter on BBC Radio 5 live

For athletes, you need to relax now it is here and hopefully you are fit. It is about trying to be calm and you will watch a bit of the opening ceremony, you want to keep your emotions in check and not overthink things.

When the alarm goes off tomorrow morning, all your senses heighten. You just want to stay calm. I have had times when that has not happened. Going to bed and sleeping at 9pm and not sleeping all night.

Try to forget it is the Olympic Games, what you have worked for. When you get here, you see the stars and think about the legends that have competed in the past, it can blow your mind.

It appears he has been ruled out because of ill health. Or is he just playing up for the cameras? We shall see...

It's said the Brits love a queue, but not if it means you will miss the opening ceremony.

This is the line for the media entrance at the Maracana for tonight's extravaganza.

BBC Sport's Karen Fazackerley reports that 10 buses got lost for two hours.

Well, at least they got to see the sights of Rio.

    Big shoes to fill

Rio's opening ceremony is just over two hours away - will it be a patch on London 2012?

Danny Boyle did a phenomenal job. I cannot recommend highly enough the recent BBC documentary on Boyle's show of four years ago.
