  1. Olympic memories from the BBC teampublished at 21:43 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

Members of the BBC team for the 2016 Rio Olympics - Hazel Irvine, Gabby Logan, Ore Oduba, Jason Mohammad, Leon Taylor and Rebecca Adlington - recall their favourite memories from Games gone by, including Mark Spitz, Michael Johnson and Daley Thompson winning golds.

I've just seen the rowing venue - absolutely stunning. They are normally a flat course of water but this is a lagoon in the shadow of Christ the redeemer. Top class.

Clare Balding says this could be the most picturesque Olympics ever. Keep them peeled for the next 18 days...

  3. 'Don't get distracted'published at 21:39 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Michael Johnson
Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC One

It is a delicate balance. You get to the Games and it is everything you dreamed off, you have to balance that with, 'I have got this point so I have not been doing anything badly'.

You have to produce your best, but not forget what you have been doing. Most athletes and their teams will have prepared to focus on the objective and not get distracted by the Olympics.

Without doubt the brightest venue I've seen so far is the hockey centre - home to two pitches.

Both are blue with green edging. And guess what? The ball will be yellow to complete the Brazilian flag colours.

Team GB men and women are in action here on Saturday, some 20+km from the hectic athletes' village.

  6. Neighbours are importantpublished at 21:36 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Sir Clive Woodward
World Cup winning rugby union coach on BBC TV

I will be commentating on the rugby sevens and I am looking forward to that. I will also be doing bits for the IOC in the athletes' village.

UK Sport fund a lot of the sports and in any Olympic sports the last couple of days are crucial. If you get the last few days wrong, you have to get it sorted out. The Olympic village can bring in distractions.

The village has 15,000 athletes, your neighbours are important. You want people of similar culture next to you. The Canadians are similar to the British team and it is no accident they are neighbours.

This is a massive opportunity for rugby as a global sport. For it to be in the Olympic family, it is a colossal chance. It is a chance to show how the players are athletes, I am hoping families and kids are watching.

    Sir Steve Redgrave
Five-time Olympic champion and BBC Sport analyst

I got here on Tuesday, there is a good feeling in the city but there is not as much colour around as at previous Games.

I have no problem with that. The money is being spent elsewhere.

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC One

Adam Peaty wants to break the world record every time he gets in the pool. That's what makes him special. He wants to have his hand on the wall first every time he swims,

We have the capability of winning four or five medals in the pool.

Peaty's potentialpublished at 21:28 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

There is a lot of expectation on the young shoulders of Adam Peaty.

The world champion and record holder in the 100m and 50m breaststroke is in the heats and semi-final of the 100m breatstroke tomorrow.

If - we mean when - he reaches the final, he will be in action at 02:53 BST on Monday morning.

    Set your alarm clocks.

    'Daley a role model'published at 21:26 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Rebecca Adlington
Double Olympic gold-medal winning swimmer on BBC One

What I love about Tom Daley is that he's stayed at his best. He's never really had a lapse in diving. What a role model he is for his sport.

A Greek athlete has been kicked out of the Olympics for failing a drugs test, the Hellenic Olympic Committee has announced.

The HOC declined to name the athlete or even say which sport they were from. It said in a statement that the athlete concerned had returned a positive test at the beginning of July and had now left the Olympic Village.

  15. The legend of 'Eric the Eel'published at 21:20 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

Surely one of my favourite all-time Olympic moments.

Equatorial Guinea's Eric 'The Eel' Moussambani had never seen an Olympic-sized swimming pool before becoming a star at Sydney 2000.

    You honestly could not tell.

  19. Wiggins set for another gold?published at 21:13 British Summer Time 5 August 2016

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC One

Bradley Wiggins coming back to track cycling was the right move, he's clearly enjoying it. A change is as good as a rest and I firmly believe he will win another gold.

He is the old Bradley we all know and love.

GB will dominate on the track.
