It's been quite a wait for a British all-around Olympic medal, which made seeing the flags gradually rise a special moment.

Max Whitlock had previously said he wants to be a legend of his sport, he's gone quite a way to achieving that with his performance at the Olympic Arena. A gold medal could be his too in the pommel horse in a few days.

    Diving

Chris Mears and Jack Laugher won diving gold earlier for GB. It was a particularly special moment for Mears, who was given a 5% chance of surviving serious illness in 2009.

He told BBC One: "To be honest, even after going through all that horrible experience making London 2012 was enough for me - that was great.

"We knew we could get medals here, we kind of thought we could get gold but to actually get it is just incredible."

    Olympic men's football

London 2012 champions Mexico failed to reach the quarter-finals of Olympic men's football in Rio after losing to South Korea.

Kwon Chang-hoon's stunning strike secured the win for the Koreans, who finished top of Group C.

Argentina were also knocked out at the group stage after a 1-1 draw with Honduras, but Germany progressed after beating Fiji 10-0. Hosts Brazil play Denmark at 02:00 BST on Thursday and need a win to progress.

The Brazilians, currently second in Group A on two points, have not even scored a goal at the tournament following goalless draws with Iraq and Denmark.

Max held his nerve. The competition was so tough throughout. All of the top gymnasts performed to their maximum.

It went down to the last five or six routines and Max went up first, set the bar and had to sit and wait.

Most of these lads are on their third competition in row so it is tough and demanding on the body so there is relief at the end, it was so close at the top of that table.
