  2. What's happening on day seven?published at 04:10 British Summer Time 12 August 2016

After a golden start in the velodrome on Thursday night, Sir Bradley Wiggins will look to become the first Briton to win eight Olympic medals when he goes in the men's team pursuit.

Today also sees the start of the athletics with 42-year-old Jo Pavey becoming the first Briton to compete at five consecutive Games in track and field.

At the Lagoa, Helen Glover and Heather Stanning are attempting to maintain an unbeaten record stretching back to 2009.

Meanwhile, Team GB, led by Charlotte Dujardin and her horse Valegro, are well placed to secure a medal in the dressage.

Here's an unusual event, a joint gold-medal ceremony for Simone Manuel and Penny Oleksiak. That means no silver, and two national anthems.

I don't want to cause a diplomatic incident but the US was played before Canada.

Oleksiak and Manual both take Gold in dramatic tie!

    Shock, confusion and history!

After a short period of switching between who had won, both Simone Manuel and Penny Oleksiak get themselves gold medals over the much fancied Australian Cate Campbell in a remarkable race.

History has been made as Simone Manuel becomes the first black female gold medalist in the swimming pool.

And amazingly, almost most insignificantly, Canada's Penny Oleksiak is only 16 years old.

GB's James Guy after finishing seventh in the men's 100m butterfly semi: "Michael Phelps is the GOAT (greatest of all time) and he was beside me so it was hard not to get distracted. I think I got a bit cold in the cool room - we were waiting so long for Michael's presentation. I've had a busy week so far and then back tomorrow before an evening off, which is quite nice."
