Not many Olympic sports end with all of the field lining up for a celebratory photo. But that's what the heptathletes do - all 20-odd of them.

Great Britain's Jessica Ennis-Hill, who won silver, explains why...

"That is the special thing about the heptathlon, we have two days of gruelling competition and we all appreciate how hard it is and what we have put our bodies through physically and mentally," she says on BBC One.

"To have that moment where we can all say ‘we've got through this’ is a moment to thank the crowd for their support.”

Murray is sporting a pair of red wheels (it's impossible to buy a pair of white trainers nowadays, isn't it?). When it looks like he might go a double break behind in this second set, he finds a forehand to stay only on behind.

Cavendish storms into omnium leadpublished at 22:47

    Men's omnium

Fantastic from Great Britain's Mark Cavendish, who has moved into the overall lead after two of six events in the omnium.

Racing against omnium world champion Fernando Gaviria Rendon in the individual pursuit, Cavendish catches and storms past the Colombian in the 4,000m race.

Cavendish finishes in a time of four minutes 16.878 seconds to set the fastest time in this discipline so far. After coming sixth in the earlier scratch race, that takes Cavendish top of the pile, with only four riders still to go in the individual pursuit.

Del Potro has a white bandana around his head, looking like a man who has done the Rambo thing with his tie deep into the evening do of a wedding. Still, he holds serve, keeping his foot on the Murray throat in this second set.

I'm proud of winning silver - Ennispublished at 22:42

    Athletics

Jessica Ennis-Hill may have lost her Olympic title but she is still as proud as punch - as they say in her native South Yorkshire.

The Sheffield athlete, 30, returned to the sport after giving birth to her son Reggie two years ago.

"I left everything on the track, I gave it all I had," she says.

"The last couple of years have been challenging in so many ways. I'm proud to get to this point and come away with another podium medal."

On motherhood: "It has affected every part of my life. As an athlete you have to rest and recover, but my whole schedule of training has changed. Reggie comes first before absolutely everything and I make everything fit around him."

That Juan Martin del Potro break up in the first game of set two got the Argentinians here bouncing on the spot again.

Six bounces of the ball prior to a serve for the big man. He and Murray trade cross court, who will show a hand first!'? It's Murray with a slice down the line. "Great shot," cries the man next to me. "Nice," he adds.

Went a "c'mon" from Murray halfway through that game but he can't break back. Cue more bouncing.

Del Potro looks like he's run a marathon already. He almost staggers around between points.

Giles Scott's gold medal in the Finn won't be confirmed until the medal race is over on Tuesdsy, but, barring any protests, he will win a first Olympic title on his debut even if he finishes last.

"It will be nice to enjoy it without any pressure," he said, although you expect the four-time world champion will be racing to win. "To help win a fifth successive medal in the Finn for GB is incredible. It's been a long road and it hasn't really sunk in yet."

If you're wondering why Scott has been at the Olympics before, three words explain it: Sir Ben Ainslie.
