I think it helped him going so far up in the order. He was then able to just sit back and relax.
He looked more nervous waiting for the result than he did before his routine...
We were hoping for a sneaky bronze but where he was brilliant others faltered.
Great Britain now have 11 gold medals. They stay third in the medal table, but there's daylight between them and Germany, who have eight. China are only two ahead on 13. That deficit could go tonight...

Elle Sheerin: Forget Super Saturday, this is a Sensational Sunday in the making!
Libby Jackson: Never mind #SuperSaturday at the Olympics, this is shaping up for #SensationalSunday. So much going on, medals all over!
Jo Tanner: Max Whitlock. You absolute beauty. First EVER Olympic gymnastic gold for floor. And it's not even his strongest apparatus!
Men's floor
Just joining us? Where have you been?
Max Whitlock has just won Great Britain's first ever Olympic gymnastics gold medal. He went out third on the floor, executed an inch-perfect routine and never looked back.
A moment of history.
Willett on his way home
Danny Willett's Olympics is done and dusted, a final round of 74 leaving him down at level par.
"It’s been pretty poor to be honest. Nothing really went my way and unfortunately over four days of golf, if they don’t go your way, you’re not going to be in the mix. A disappointing week but the experience has been pretty good.
"It’s very different, guys who have stayed in the Olympic Village have been able to mix [with other athletes] - the top two on the leaderboard aren’t staying in the Olympic Village, so that might say something. But the whole experience has been very good, it’s just disappointing to try and play well and unfortunately you don’t."
BBC Sport's Nathan Mercer: Nervy times for the British fans following Justin Rose on 14. Approaching the closing stretch and Rose enduring a minor wobble. Groans though from the Swedish supporters as Henrik Stenson fluffs his chip.
John Murray
BBC Radio 5 live commentator
That was a strong putt from Justin Rose.
-14 Rose, -14 Stenson, -13 Kuchar
It's going GB's way all across Rio. Stenson drops a shot on the 14th, leveling things up once more. Matt Kuchar, though, lurks only a shot behind.

Remember, that pommel horse final is still to come for Whitlock and Louis Smith. They will line up at 19:34. A historic night for British gymnastics could still get even better.

L Higgins: Max piled the pressure on, the rest then cracked.
Natalie Wood: GOLD FOR MAX!! Most deserved medal this Olympics!! Well done
Dan Keatings
British gymnast on BBC One
That's going to take the pressure off the pommels now!
He is already the Olympic Champion on the floor. What does he have to lose now?
Craig Heap
Commonwealth Games Gold winning Gymnast
After Sydney I honestly believed we would never be good enough to compete at the highest level but we have seen a young man deliver at the highest level.
Matt Baker on BBC One: You are witnessing history for Great Britain and history for Brazil!
He posted the score and said "beat that if you can" and they couldn't!

Whitlock is posing with the Union flag. He joins the two Brazilians. This wasn't supposed to happen, Whitlock's best chance was to come in the pommel horse - and that's still to come!
Men's floor
Can you believe this? Max Whitlock embraces the GB staff, he's in all sorts of tears. The arena is going nuts because Brazil have won silver and bronze.

History for Max Whitlock! It's gold on the floor! He is Great Britain's first gymnastics Olympic champion!
