'Cavendish really wants this'published at 20:41 British Summer Time 15 August 2016

    Men's omnium - points race (21:23 BST)

    Sir Chris Hoy
Six-time Olympic cycling champion on BBC One

Great Britain's Mark Cavendish is second in the omnium, with only one event left - the points race. That is coming up in about 40 minutes.

The points race is the big one, there are four or five guys still in position for the gold medal and Mark Cavendish can do it, we are going to give him a big cheer.

He doesn't have to do this (be in Rio), but it shows how much he cares about the Olympic Games. He wants this, he really wants this. The whole of Great Britain is behind him and we will all have our fingers crossed for him.

Spare a thought for Irish sailor Annalise Murphy's brother, Fin, pictured here in a fetching suit.

He's flying home tomorrow morning and now the Laser Radial medal race has been postponed until tomorrow, he could miss out on his sister winning a first sailing medal for Ireland in 36 years.

"They are the top 10 sailors in the world, I'm sure they'd have been able to manage in this wind," he says.

Annalise's mother Cathy is also here, and having sailed for Ireland in the 1988 Seoul Olympics, she also thinks organisers called it off "too soon".

Fin says he's going to try and get his flight changed in order to stay. Whoever the airline is, please be kind to him!

If drag racing ever gets into the Olympics, Rio would be able to offer the Deodoro region up as a standout option. The streets here are long and never ending, you could hit some serious speed.

After a couple of miles or so walking to the hockey we seem to be getting the fumes and smoke of a bush fire as everything suddenly tastes of smoke.

It's been baking here today, so much so that for the first time organisers have put water stations out on the road connecting venues.

So Cavendish is second overall, 16 points behind Viviani. However, huge points are on offer in the points race - you can pick up 20 just for lapping the field in the 40km race.
