Spectators in the Olympic Arena coming to terms with seeing something they never thought they would - Simone Biles faltering on the beam. There will be no fourth gold today, although she will have another chance on the floor on Tuesday.

Biles is still smiling on the sidelines, however. It's Sanne Wevers who, incredibly, leads, the gymnast from the Netherlands pushing America's best - Biles and Lauren Hernandez - into second and third respectively.

We're deep into this beam final and Sanne Wevers continues to lead. Lauren Hernandez, a big threat from the United States, has just failed to topple the Dutch gymnast, going second. There are two competitors left to go.

    Men's omnium

Cavendish, remember, is tied for second in the six-event omnium. The flying lap is basically a time trial of the 250m track, with the riders given two and a half laps to get their speed up (hence the 'flying'. Clever, eh?).

With riders going out in reverse order, Cavendish will not be out until approaching 20:30.

So we know that Simone Biles will not be winning a fourth gold medal of these Games. Across Rio, Mark Cavendish is out for a first medal of any colour.

The flying lap in the omnium has just begun.

That is going to be one big score to try and beat.

It's the first time we've seen Simone falter, she's been so confident. She could still be in with a shot of a medal here. It's a huge achievement, she's a very special, talented gymnast.

    Women's beam

Sanne Wevers of the Netherlands leads! There will be no gold medal for Simone Biles. After what seems like an age of deliberation from the judges, Wevers gets a 15.466. That's a very big score.

Biles has been significantly ahead of the others on the beam. It will still take a good routine to beat her.

On the front somersault, she opened out a fraction early. She had to recover and really, putting her hands down like that, is classed as a fault.

It's 14.733, which is enough for the lead at the moment, but there are still five more gymnasts to go. It's unlikely to be enough for gold.

She just held back on that front somersault but she did well to control it stay on the beam. It’s such a difficult piece of apparatus – once you’ve fallen once, it’s hard to stay solid.

I think that will take away that gold medal from her.
