Stefan Henze in competition at the World Championships in Sydney in 2005
Germany canoe slalom coach Stefan Henze has died following a car crash near the Rio Olympic Park last week.
The 35-year-old 2004 Olympic silver medallist suffered head injuries when a taxi he was in with a team-mate crashed into a concrete barrier on Friday.
The German Olympic Committee (DOSB) said Henze had died of his injuries in the presence of his family.
"Words cannot describe what we feel in the team after this terrible loss," said DOSB president Alfons Hormann.
The DOSB will hold a memorial service in the Olympic village on Tuesday and has asked the International Olympic Committee to fly the German flag at half-mast at all venues.

Four-time Olympic gold medallist athlete on BBC One
The women's 400m final was a fantastic race and that was an amazing effort from a world-class athlete.
Allyson Felix will be very disappointed because all she needed was one more metre to really make that happen.
Athletics
If you want an idea of how bad these athletes want to win gold then look no further than Shaunae Miller of the Bahamas.
In a thrilling finish to the women's 400m final, Miller fell over the line to edge out American world champion Allyson Felix for the gold.
The move worked as, with Felix closing quickly, Miller ended up winning by 0.07secs.
Felix, a four-time Olympic gold medallist, took silver in 49.51 seconds with Jamaica's Shericka Jackson third.

Evgeny Tishchenko, right, was disappointed to be booed
Russian heavyweight boxer Evgeny Tishchenko voiced his frustration at the audience's reaction to his Olympic gold on Monday over Kazakhstan's Vassiliy Levit on Monday.
Many thought Levit had won, but Tishchenko said: "It's a pity that the public reacted like this.
"I feel sad that I've been booed. If I was given the victory, it means I deserved it. I respect both the public and my rival. There can't be any complaints as to how I was judged, I'm excited about my win. But if Vasily Levit was treated unfairly, I feel sorry that this happened."

Much like the British athletes in London 2012, Brazilian Thiago Braz da Silva felt the "Home Olympics Love" in the athletics stadium as he became Olympic pole vault champion.
The power of the home crowd launched him over that pole ahead of world number one Renaud Lavillenie of France.
Athletics
Brazil's Thiago Braz da Silva set an Olympic record of 6.03m to win gold in the men's pole vault but his rival and defending champion Renaud Lavillenie was not a happy chappy.
The Frenchman had to appeal for quiet from the home crowd as he prepared for a jump and gave a thumbs down gesture to the cameras.
"In 1936 the crowd was against Jesse Owens. We've not see this since. We have to deal with it," he said.
"For the Olympics it is not a good image. I did nothing to the Brazilians.
"It really disturbed me, I felt the nastiness of the public and we do a sport where you never see that."
African-American athlete Owens won four gold medals at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, which were being used by Adolf Hitler to promote Nazi ideologies of racial superiority.
Lavillenie later apologised for the comparison and has reiterated that today on Twitter.
