Trott is already Britain's most successful female Olympian, having scooped the third gold of her career in the team pursuit in Rio.

Today, she is aiming for a fourth in the ominium.

If she converts her lead at the halfway point into another title, then she will pull up alongside Ben Ainslie and Matthew Pinsent in the individual medal stakes.

And she is still just 24 years old.

    Moody black and white montages.

    Testosterone-fuelled stare-outs and mind games.

    A lead-heavy sense of self-importance.

Laura Trott takes things a less more light-heartedly, but her hand luggage coming back from Rio will be pretty weighty.
