    USA v Argentina

The USA, winners of every Olympic basketball gold bar one since 1992 are currently in quarter-final action. The only other team to win gold in that time? Argentina, 2004. The US, dressed all in white like a team of ice-cream men, are 36-24 up in the second.

So no medals of any colour for Great Britain today. This is what it must have been like in 1996. Send for Redgrave and Pinsent.

    Women's 470

If you were tuning in an expecting confirmation of another gold medal for Great Britain, you will be disappointed. Hannah Mills and Saskia Clark only had to finish today's 470 race to have their gold confirmed, but the race didn't even begin. Not enough wind.

Is it only me who thinks that no wind is a proper test of a sailor's ability?

And not just any gold medal either.

Japan's Kaori Icho has become the first woman to win individual gold in four straight Olympics by winning the -58kg freestyle wrestling.

Icho, 32, has won -58kg gold in every Olympics since Athens 2004, but was taken close by Russia's Valeria Koblova who led with five seconds left.

Icho had a 13 year undefeated record ended in January, and has 10 world championship golds.

Tunisia's Marwa Amri and Sakshi Malik of India won bronzes.

From missing the opening ceremony for fear of standing up too long to imposing their own social media ban for the Games, this Great Britain side are focused to the core.

That was evident as they soaked up pressure and took their chances expertly against a side higher in the global rankings.

If rigid focus isn't enough to win gold, consider momentum. Along with a 100% record on the field, off the field Team GB's army of friends and family get louder and louder. You get the sense something special is happening.

Team GB were flawless against New Zealand. Netherlands are the side everyone feared. Hitting an even higher level will be a necessity.
