Japan are dominating the grappling at these Games - they have already won four golds.

Journalists following this page right now, the panel on BBC Radio 5 live have been discussing something that might be of interest - what is the worst thing you can say to an athlete when they have just missed out on a medal?

Steve Parry says: "Five words: Are you pleased with that?"

For Victoria Pendleton, it's "that must be really disappointing".

I may or may not have asked just those questions...

So China miss out on the final. I wonder if they were watching for a toe out of the lane...

    Women's 4x100m relay

The US get the baton round, despite an iffy final changeover. 41.77 seconds sees them through, to a mixed reaction from the crowd. That is one of the strangest things you will see at these Games.

Have you seen the Ryan Lochte story? Quite incredible. If not, read it here.

From what I can tell, what started with him and his mates causing some damage to a petrol station ended up with a cooked up story about an armed robbery.

The person who spilled the beans? His mum.

Right then, get ready for an odd spectacle. At 23:00, the USA women's 4x100m relay team will be running alone after successfully claiming they were obstructed during their heat.

There they dropped the baton but in what is now effectively a time trial, they must beat the 42.70 seconds of China to progress.

    Don't drop it again...

Wanting to be the best in the world at your job is a very intrinsic thing. It is about me. I wanted to be really good at this. I nearly quit because I was fourth best. It was crazy but I wanted to be the best. It was not about the crowd. I've competed at events where there was one guy and a flute, and it wasn't even for me.

Wider question, what is it like at the end of the Olympics? Not as busy as it was back at the start? It must be like being at a music festival. On the Thursday you haven't got room to pitch your tent. By Monday you're the only one in the field.

Am I the only one surprised to see medal winners coming home before the closing ceremony? Is it not worth staying for? You'd want to wring every last drop out of the Olympics, wouldn't you?

Or is the athletes' village on a rotation system. "I see your event finished three days ago? Leave now or we'll start charging you."

    'I felt a bit flat'published at 22:40

    Diving

Great Britain's Tonia Couch, who finished 12th in the 10m diving final: "The last few days I haven’t dived my best, I’ve been a bit flat.

"I dived amazing in the synchronised event and that is my main event but I have made the final here and that was goal so no one can take that away from me.

"I didn’t even watch them (Chinese gold and silver medallists). They do it all the time, scoring 10s. That is what we expect and I just focus on myself.

"Our team has been fantastic. We have a great bond, everyone is diving so well. They’re all pretty much finished now and are here to support still."
