The United States have given flag-carrying duties to superstar gymnast Simone Biles.

Obame almost got back into it, closing to 9-6, but a head kick in the last few seconds sealed it for Cho, who is into the quarter-finals.

With Gwen Jorgensen still very comfortable in the lead group, we are nearing decision time for the rest.

Will the likes of Non Stanford and Vicky Holland bid for gold and try and lose the American before we get to the run?

Or do they keep fresh, hide in the pack and back themselves to get on the podium via a foot race?

It will be difficult for any of them to beat Jorgensen on the run if they dismount at the same time

Jenkins is one minutes and 45 seconds adrift at the halfway point and out of touch.

It is a tough, tough day for Sarah True.

The American has had a spill and looks like she is limping towards a withdrawal from the race.

GB's Mahama Cho maintains his 4-1 lead over Anthony Obame after the second round and just needs to get through two more minutes to reach the quarter-finals.

But as Lutalo Muhammad's turmoil showed us last night - it's never over until it's over in taekwondo.

Helen Jenkins is one minute and 25 seconds off the leaders after 15km.

She is not keeping enough high-quality company to close that gap either on the bike stage.

She is paying the price for not being able to keep with the elite of the group over the first climb. She has gone backwards since then.

Gwen Jorgensen decides that she would like to thin out the front group a little herself.

The American joins Nicola Spirig and Britain's Non Stanford at the front of the pack and suddenly things are strung out long and loose behind her.

Great Britain's Helen Jenkins is 55 seconds down on the leading pack as she comes though the line to complete the second of eight laps on the 40km bike course.

She will struggle to get on the podium from here with the number and quality of athletes in that lead group.

United States Gwen Jorgensen is getting a free ride at the moment, lurking in the middle of the pack and well away from the front.

She is content to keep her legs fresh for the run stage where she is head and shoulders above everyone else.

Nicola Spirig is working hardest to try and push forward and cause the American some problems. She could do with a bit more help from the rest, with Non Stanford one of the few to take a turn up top.

It is by no means a disaster for Helen Jenkins.

The first of the 5km bike leg laps is done and there is a 22-strong leading group containing Great Britain's Non Stanford and Vicky Holland along with American favourite Gwen Jorgensen, defending champion Nicola Spirig and Bermuda's Flora Duffy.

Great Britain's Helen Jenkins is part of a three-strong group who are 12 seconds back, working hard to get back involved.

There is a large clutch of twenty to thirty athletes all together as they come out of transition, but the Rio slopes are soon stretching them out.

Non Stanford is at the front of the lead group and pushing the pace alongside defending champion Nicola Spirig of Switzerland. 

Stanford's team-mate Vicky Holland is also up there.

Gwen Jorgensen is drifting out the back, but clinging on by her fingernails so far.

Can the leaders cut her adrift?

Tom Daley's first dive is sturdy but he scored better on his opening inward three-and-a-half somersaults in the preliminaries yesterday. 

He scores 78.40 and is in eighth after one dive each. 

BBC commentator Leon Taylor says that is a good thing...."I would like to see him save his best dives for the final" he says.

We would like to see him IN the final first Leon!

Olympic champion David Boudia starts with his arm stand back double somersault with two-and-a-half twists... 

It looks impressive and that's all you need to know - he scores 86.40. 

2012's silver medallist Qui Bo scores 89.25 for his inward-three-and-a-half-somersaults.

That is phenomenal swimming from Britain's Non Stanford because some of her supports have been slightly nervous about her swim.

Carolina Routier of Spain leads out of the water, now where are the rest?

A full complement of Brits within 10 seconds of the leader with Vicky Holland in 13th, closely followed by Helen Jenkins and Non Stanford.

American Gwen Jorgensen is right there as well along with Flora Duffy of Bermuda.
