'Yafai could beat either of the other semi-finalists'published at 06:46 British Summer Time 5 August 2021

    Men's flyweight

    Steve Bunce
Commentator on BBC Radio 5 Live

Galal Yafai has stopped an Armenian and a Cuban, that doesn't happen - so really the Kazak should be easy fare for him. The only problem with this Kazak is that he's beaten everyone, for instance the two men in the other semi-final in the last Olympic cycle, he has handled them comfortably, he's a good fighter. All Kazaks are good fighters, all Uzbeks are good fighters, all Cubans are good fighters and the final part of that sentence is that all GB boxers are good fighters.

We've set a record, we've won six medals, more than we have done before, we've had two losing finalists. We need Galal to get to the final because he can beat either of the other guys in the other semi-final. Then we need Lauren Price to beat her nemesis tomorrow and get to the final. I don't want to be on the radio on Sunday celebrating six medals and someone pipes up saying 'yes but Buncey, none of them are gold' - that will break my heart.

Yafai eyes gold-medal boutpublished at 06:45 British Summer Time 5 August 2021

    Men's flyweight semi-finals

Galal Yafai has already guaranteed himself a bronze medal by reaching the men's flyweight semi-final but the 28-year-old Brit is looking to turn that into a potential gold by beating Kazakhstan's Saken Bibossinov today.

The Commonwealth Games gold medallist, from Birmingham, has been rooming with Ben Whittaker and Frazer Clarke, who took silver and bronze in their events yesterday, so was determined to not return home empty-handed.

With six medals guaranteed in Tokyo, this is Team GB's best return in the boxing ring since 1920.

Australia are stunned. This is a completely different USA team to the one that started the game and they now lead by nine points - 59-50.

Every part of their game has improved but it all started when Kevin Durant took control of the game himself. He's got 23 points but has also been doing his bit in defence too.

This moment belongs to Harrington, her emotions begin to overflow now. Looking to emulate the accomplishments of her compatriot Katie Taylor, who took the inaugural Olympic lightweight title in London 2012.

What a performance from Harrington, this late bloomer, who continued to toil and work in the gym. You hear John Conlan (her coach) say 'one more fight,' because she is through to contest for Olympic gold.

They realise it's close and that they need to do a little more. Harrington is clever, tricky and a skillful boxer, and she rarely makes mistakes over the front foot.

A couple of counter-attacks from Harrington were needed - but it was a better round for Seesondee.
