Korda double bogeys 18published at 07:16 British Summer Time 5 August 2021

    Women's golf

Not the finish Nelly Korda's spectacular round deserved. The American was on for a 59 if she could birdie the 18th after heading to the final hole at 11 under for her round.

Instead, after nine birdies and an eagle, she finishes with a double bogey to slip back to 13 under par for the tournament. Still a superb nine-under round of 62.

It means Korda leads by four. Britain's Jodi Ewart Shadoff is back at level par, with team-mate Mel Reid at six over.

Yes Yafai! He will box for Olympic gold! What an epic semi-final.

Bibossinov is absolutely distraught, but he has played his part in this thrilling encounter. Well done Yafai, you're through to the final.

Yafai should not be losing this fight. Big shots that turn heads will win this fight. You lose having left nothing to chance. You empty the tank.

It's a 3:2 split decision. There's nothing in it. I am slightly surprised at the Kazakh being upset. I'm delighted for Yafai - he stayed on and watched his brothers win but he said 'I'm going to stick with my Olympic dream'.

    Women's 10m platform final

There are two Britons in action in the Women's 10m platform final - Lois Toulson and Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix.

If the latter's name sounds familiar, she's the daughter of TV presenter Fred Sirieix (the maitre d' on the Channel 4 show First Dates, among other things).

But at only 16, Andrea, who was the 2020 BBC Sports Personality of the Year, is already an Olympic finalist alongside her team-mate Toulson.

China look to be the favourites for gold with Hongchan Quan and Yuxi Chan leading the qualifiers for the 12-woman final.

A split decision, and it's Great Britain's Galal Yafai who is into the final!

The 28-year-old will fight for an Olympic gold medal. He's done it! Superb from the Birmingham fighter. Saken Bibossinov is distraught.

He just has to keep punching right to the very end, Yafai. Just keep pushing him back, that's important, show the judges that you are coming forward.

Come on Yafai, you've got to work! Keep pushing!

Better from Saken Bibossinov, who sneaks in a body shot but it's another solid round from Galal Yafai and the British fighter will be feeling confident so far.

The judges though have given it to Bibossinov. All to play for in the final round...

Galal Yafai peppers the body of his opponent and Saken Bibossinov is desperately trying to extend the range between them, but the Kazakhstan boxer is struggling with the close-range work of the Brit.

Yafai is caught for the first time but bounces straight back and is controlling the fight at his own pace in the second round.

    Basketball

In the end, Team USA made that look easy. They defeat Australia 97-78 and are on their way to the final.

What a comeback from the three-time defending champions. They trailed by 15 points in the second quarter but launched a 34-point run to overturn the deficit.

They will face the winners of today's other semi-final (12:00 BST) between France and Slovenia in Saturday's gold medal game.

Saken Bibossinov doesn't know what's hit him... but it's the rapid combinations of GB's Galal Yafai. Relentless from the Birmingham fighter in the opening round.

Bibossinov finds his feet a little in the final few seconds of the round but Yafai is looking strong. Great start.

There is pressure taken off when you get to the medal stage but once you get to the semi then you can dare to dream. Galal Yafai will look at this today and think he's come through some good fights, so he will fancy this fight.

If he was to win, he would beat Carlo Paalam who has just won the other semi-final. Yafai comes from boxing royalty - three brothers, all of them champions at the professional level, one Olympian - he is from a dynasty.

Galal Yafai has the motivation of a medal but also some family bragging rights to fire him up the podium today.

The Birmingham fighter's brothers Gamal and Kal are both pro boxers, with the later a former super fly world champion.

This is Galal’s second Olympics after he lost in the last 16 in Rio. Kazak Saken Bibossinov won bronze at the 2019 World Championships.
