Wonderful ride from Matt Walls to get in that break away group he knew they were dangerous riders n that group and he couldn't let them go.

He came straight in at the back of the bunch weaved his way very tactically through to somehow get within the front of the bunch and to finish knowing the riders ahead of him weren't in the chasing group and get in the slipstream - great skills.

Jack Carlin is the first up for Great Britain in heat three, racing against France's Sebastien Vigier. Jason Kenny goes in heat five against Denis Dmitriev, of the Russian Olympic Committee.

Jason Kenny isn't playing mind games, not trying to take pressure off himself - he's being honest by saying Jack is the favourite from the Brits. He'll know what he wants to do, he'll know his tactics.

Jason Kenny has enough Olympic medals to fill the mantelpieces of all his GB team-mates, so surely he's a cert for another podium place in Japan?

Not according to the 33-year-old, who is backing compatriot Jack Carlin as the nation's best chance of a medal in the men's individual sprint.

Kenny and Carlin - who won team sprint silver on Tuesday - are about to race in the 1/8 finals, hoping to book quarter-final berths.

But Kenny, who won the Olympic title in both London and Rio, says he is "struggling a bit" after his medal-winning efforts earlier in the week.

"Jack is really strong and is in a really good position," said Kenny.

"He's definitely our best chance. The Dutch boys are fast, a little bit quicker but Jack's got the edge in racing. He's a good racer and if he keeps it together he's in a really good position."

An excellent dive and there are no worries for the gold and silver medal tussle with the Chinese teenagers.

Quan with an absolute statement of a response but it won't be tens across the board with that 'volcano' bubble up on entry.

Another solid dive from Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix who scores 63.00 with her third dive and she is now on 182.30 in seventh place.

It is a better third round from Lois Toulson with a score of 62.40 and she is ninth with two dives remaining.

China's Quan Hongchen has a comfortable lead over compatriot Chen Yuxi at the top of the standings.

Consistency is absolutely everything in this. They take their points tally from this race and every other race all the way into the points race at the end.

Still going strong, Matt Walls, sitting fourth in the breakaway, France's Benjamin Thomas and Denmark's Niklas Larsen among those also up there, and it's fourth across the line for the British rider.

A quick calculation, and with his points gained it's a first-place finish for Walls.

This race has been non-stop from the get-go. Walls has done an excellent job to bridge the gap and get across to the leading group.

They're just starting to think about the sprint now... this is going to get messy.

Matt Walls is up among the frontrunners in the scratch race with nine laps to go.

For those that aren't cycling aficionados, you probably need a reminder of how the omnium works...

Riders accumulate points from four events - a scratch race, tempo race, elimination race and points race. Got it?!

The scratch is a 10km, 40-lap, first-across-the line tussle, the tempo race is also 40 laps but riders accumulate points throughout - with 20 on offer for lapping the field.

In the elimination race the rider last in the field is knocked out after every two laps, and finally the points race does exactly what is says on the tin - a 100-lap battle with various points on offer for sprints and lapping the field.

Britain's Matt Walls has world and European medals. Can he add an Olympic one to his collection?

It won't be easy the likes of Italy's defending champion Elia Viviani, French world champion Benjamin Thomand two-time Dutch World Championship runner-up Jan-Willem van Schip in the field.

The multiple-event men's race gets under way with the scratch race shortly. The tempo, elimination and points races are all to follow.

"I've always dreamed about this, we would talk about it at home me and my brothers and now I'm here with them all watching me at home, my brothers, my mum, the whole world watching me now in the Olympic final and I've just got to deliver the goods and take that gold medal back home.

"We're a close knit team and support each other, we've got six medals now and it shows how good GB boxing is. All the support from back home - it's great.

"Now I will rest and look forward to having fun in the final."

It's the perfect dive for Quan Hongchan - 10s across the board and she is racing away with it. That was incredible!

It's a better second-round dive from Britain's Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix but Lois Toulson's slim medal hopes are over after she missed her effort.

Spendolini-Sirieix scores 60.80 for a total of 119.30 and is in eighth place but Toulson who could only manage 37.80 is down in 10th.

The leader is China's 14-year-old Quan Hongchan on 178.50 after an outstanding second dive.

Lois has missed that dive out. This was her easiest dive but her kick out was a little bit late with a little over rotation.

She won't feature anywhere near the medals today and she knows it.

Both Britons in action have work to do after their first of five dives - Lois Toulson scored 63.00 and is in eighth while Andrea Spendolini-Sirieix is on 58.50 for ninth.

The pace is being set by China's teenage stars Chen Yuxi and Quan Hongchan who both scored 82.50 for their opening efforts.
