The trophy presentation is under way. Sean O'Loughlin is on the microphone and thanking the Wigan fans - and there are plenty of them in Sydney, by the way - for their support in Australia. Anthony Minichiello wishes Wigan the best for the rest of the Super League season and says it is an extra special day for him as his young daughter is at her first rugby league game today. He then lifts the trophy, and the Roosters celebrate.

"The Roosters showed the class they have in the squad and the quality across the board. They are easily the favourites for the NRL Premiership.

"Wigan need a big round of applause and a pat on the back. To leave England after starting the Super League season and coming over to Australia is a great achievement.

"They don't go home with the victory but the whole of NRL should support Wigan as it was a quality game of football."

Sydney Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello: "At the end of last season, we spoke about wanting to win the World Club Challenge. It was a bit rusty at stages but we got the job done. We prepared well and we did a lot of video work on Wigan, because they are a great team."

Wigan captain Sean O'Loughlin: "It was a massive effort. We've come up against a world-class team. We didn't do ourselves justice in the first part of the game but we fought well. We just caused them some trouble but we just didn't do it for long enough."

Sydney Roosters prop Jared Waerea-Hargeaves: "We're just happy to get over the line and get the win."

Centre Michael Jennings, who scored three tries: "I feel good. [Roosters coach] Trent Robinson has treated us well and we've peaked at the right time. We're a second-half team and we're disappointed with the second half, but we're pleased with the win."

Patrick Sopp, external: Roosters just letting Wigan think they were back in it.

Jay Rossi, external: Wigan have been their own worst enemy. Errors at crucial points in the game. Just not the same side as last year.

Sydney Roosters win the 2014 World Club Challenge. It was a brave effort from Wigan, who fought back well to make a game of it in the second period, but in the end the Roosters are worthy winners.

Wigan are attacking again but without the penetration from that excellent spell early in the second half. They know the game is almost over.

Five minutes more to wait before Sydney Roosters are crowned winners of the World Club Challenge for the first time in 11 years. And no doubt that Michael Jennings will be the hero after notching a hat-trick of tries.

Roosters captain Anthony Minichiello fancies a try of his own but fails to claim a high ball and Josh Charnley knocks the ball dead. Damage limitation appears to be the order of the day for the Super League champions in the closing stages.

  12. Converted try: Sydney Roosters 36-14 Wigan Warriors - Kenny-Dowall try, Maloney conpublished at 10:45 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

Sonny Bill Williams finally gets in on the act, running directly at the Wigan defence and offloading to Mitchell Aubusson, who sets up Shaun Kenny-Dowall to go over in the corner. James Maloney is a touch fortunate to land his sixth goal, with the help of the far upright, but he will not be too worried about that. His perfect kicking record remains in tact. The job is done, and Sonny Bill is having a rest on the bench for the final few minutes.

"It has been a powerful performance from the Roosters tonight and they stand in good stead ahead of their NRL opener a week on Thursday."

  14. Converted try: Sydney Roosters 30-14 Wigan Warriors - Waerea-Hargreaves try, Maloney conpublished at 10:40 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

Jared Waerea-Hargreaves may well have settled the game. He barges his way over for Sydney's fifth try from close range and James Maloney adds his fifth goal. The Warriors have fought well in this second period, but overturning a 16-point deficit in the final 13 minutes? That is surely a step too far.

Abdullah Mahmood, external: Time to see if the lack of match play before tonight will hurt the Roosters.

"Wigan deserve that. They keep coming up with the same type of play and Sydney know how to defend that. They stopped playing when the ball went to ground and Ben Flower put Josh Charnley in."

  17. Sydney Roosters 24-14 Wigan Warriorspublished at 10:36 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

Oh dear. Just the type of error I was talking about as Gil Dudson spills the ball near his own line and the Roosters gain field position again. The chance is wasted though as James Maloney fires a pass out wide but Shaun Kenny-Dowall is unable to gather cleanly.

  18. Try: Sydney Roosters 24-14 Wigan Warriors - Charnley trypublished at 10:33 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

The comeback is definitely on now. All that pressure told as Wigan half-back Blake Green lost the ball backwards and the Warriors responded to it quickest, giving Josh Charnley an easy run to the line for his second score. If Wigan can cut out their defensive errors in the final 20 minutes, they stand a chance of a historic win.

  19. Sydney Roosters 24-10 Wigan Warriorspublished at 10:32 Greenwich Mean Time 22 February 2014

Wigan are showing tremendous bottle here. They have been camped near the Roosters' try line for the past two minutes and are threatening the impossible, when it could have been so easy for them to fold.

In the middle of all that, Wigan's Eddy Pettybourne has gone off with what looks to be a shoulder injury.
