The last nine months have been very special for sport in Wigan. The town's football club won the FA Cup in May, their first major trophy, courtesy of Ben Watson's stoppage-time header against Manchester City at Wembley, and the rugby league side have not done too badly either, winning the Challenge Cup and Super League in 2013.

Today, the Warriors have the chance to add another trophy to an already congested cabinet at the DW Stadium, as they go head-to-head with NRL champions Sydney Roosters for the right to be crowned the best club team on the planet.

It has been 20 years since an English side won the World Club Challenge on Australian soil. Can the current crop of Warriors emulate their Wigan predecessors of two decades ago?
