Super League returns on Thursday with Leeds Rhinos against Huddersfield Giants, while Saints will look to put the disappointment tonight behind them when they host Castleford Tigers on Friday evening.

BBC Sport will be providing live text commentaries of selected Super League fixtures throughout the season, with radio commentary available from BBC local radio or BBC 5 live sports extra.

Nathan Middleton's match report from Langtree Park is now available on the BBC Sport website. It won't make happy reading for St Helens or Super League supporters, I'm afraid, as South Sydney inflicted a record World Club Challenge defeat on the English champions.

If you've recovered by 23:40 GMT, you can watch highlights of all three World Club Series matches in the Super League Show on BBC One.

Greg Inglis has the trophy in his rather large hands and he lifts it high above his head. The champagne flows and, in the excitement, the sign proclaiming South Sydney as "World Club Champions" has been broken. Even that couldn't withstand the power of the Rabbitohs.

And now the winners coming up to pick up their medals. South Sydney were undoubtedly the better team on the night and deservedly the victors in the World Club Challenge.

St Helens captain Jon Wilkin told Sky Sports: "Credit to South Sydney, they're a great team and well coached.

"What this has shown is that the NRL teams don't make mistakes. We made errors with the ball and defensively. South Sydney have got the tools to make you pay and they taught us a lesson."

South Sydney prop George Burgess told Sky Sports: "We expected St Helens to come out very strong. It wasn't easy and they came at us. We're really determined to keep the scoreline as low as we could and to come away with nil against us is really satisfying for the boys.

"It's been an unbelievable week, something I dreamed of as a kid growing up in Yorkshire."

South Sydney have been better than St Helens, no doubt about it, but Saints deserve a few points for their efforts. Only three minutes left for them to get on the board.

A typical James Roby break sets up a St Helens attack. They're 20 metres out with two tackles left. Jon Wilkin is pressured as he kicks and it dribbles into the arms of Greg Inglis. It just isn't their night.

A few years ago, before the intervention of Russell Crowe and others, South Sydney were the whipping boys in the NRL. Now they are 11 minutes away from becoming world champions. Quite a turnaround for the Rabbitohs. Their co-owner looks extremely satisfied. Definitely worth missing the Oscars for.
