  1. try

    TRY (Kenny-Dowall, con Hastings)published at 52 mins

    St Helens 6-26 Sydney Roosters

A lot of focus on the young Sydney Roosters halves, and 19-year-old Jayden Nikorima impresses again with neat footwork to make space for himself before finding Shaun Kenny-Dowall out on the right edge.

Slick by the youngster, who along with Jackson Hastings has a lot of eyes on him tonight.

  2. St Helens 6-22 Sydney Roosterspublished at 50 mins

Sydney Roosters happy to run through their set, opting to pass on the last and hand the ball over on St Helens' try line.

Saints survive and the pressure is relieved as they press upfield. The hosts are gifted possession again in the Chooks half and a more confident Saints go close, Tommy Makinson failing to hold the ball as Dominique Peyroux dishes off a no-look pass out wide.

  3. St Helens 6-22 Sydney Roosterspublished at 45 mins

It took 121 minutes, over 12 months and a mistake - but St Helens are on the scoreboard in the World Club Series.

The early score in the second half has given Saints renewed lift, it seems. Defensively they stop a bulldozing Mitchell Aubusson and deal with a dangerous Jayden Nikorima kick to the corner.

  4. try

TRY (Peyroux, con Walsh)published at 41 mins

    St Helens 6-22 Sydney Roosters

Huge kick from Jon Wilkin leaves Blake Ferguson grasping at air. The ball slips through his arms, onto his knee in goal and Dominique Peyroux follows up - he's over for his first Saints try since making his move from the New Zealand Warriors this season.

Gifted try, that. Is it a way back into this game?

Obviously, Michael Carrick knows his stuff when it comes to rugby league.

The Manchester United man was snapped talking to Sydney Roosters boss Trent Robinson before kick-off. The Australians lead 22-0 at half-time. Coincidence? Yeah, more than likely.

Maybe, it was Robinson giving some advice to pass on to Louis van Gaal. Anything will help right now at Old Trafford, surely.

  8. I don't care if England players like me - Bennettpublished at 20:56

Away from Langtree Park for a moment...

Wayne Bennett, not one to ever be referred to as a ray of sunshine, but then again he would hardly care.

England's new head coach, who will lead Brisbane Broncos against Wigan on Saturday, put it bluntly it his interview with BBC Sport when talking about his approach to man management.

    Media caption,

I don't care if players like me - Bennett

Now he may not care if players like him, but Australia's most successful rugby league coach has a few generations of the biggest names who would line up to sing his praises.

Former Broncos, Australia, Queensland and Wigan centre Steve Renouf flourished under Bennett's coaching, while Australia and New South Wales outside-back Kurt Gidley also played under the 66-year-old at Newcastle Knights.

Read about their experience under the 'supercoach' here.

  9. HT: St Helens 0-22 Sydney Roosterspublished at 20:53

Well, it's not as bad as last year. That is some twisted sort of consolation for Saints right now.

On the way to a record 39-0 World Club Challenge defeat by South Sydney Rabbitohs, Saints were 24 points down at the break.

Hmmm, 12 months and still looking for a score in the international series. Not great.

The Roosters have had control of most things. Saints started off really promisingly and had some good defensive sets early on, but the Roosters have waited for their opportunities and been really clinical with them.

    St Helens 0-22 Sydney Roosters

St Helens knocking hard on the door in the final moments of the half. Kyle Amor trying to muscle over and the ball is swung to the left in search of a weakness in Sydney Roosters' defence.

There are none and Roosters go in at half time looking well on their way to an easy win at Langtree Park.

  12. try

TRY (Copley, con Hastings)published at 36 mins

St Helens' Jon Wilkin sends a kick high, high, high in the sky. But it breaks kindly for Sydney Roosters and from inside their 20m they break clear through Sam Moa.

Jayden Nikorima - back on the pitch after an early head knock - has clear air ahead of him.

Knowing his limitations, he looks inside for Dale Copley, who marks his debut with a try.

I like the patience these young half-backs are playing with. For a young half-back pairing, they've shown tremendous poise to wait for the right opportunity to occur.

  14. St Helens 0-16 Sydney Roosterspublished at 30 mins

There is noise from the home fans as a great chase on the kick sees Jordan Turner and Adam Swift win possession back. They take Latrell Mitchell into touch as the Roosters player tries to field a Jon Wilkin kick.

A penalty for Saints looks positive, but the ball is spilled by Luke Thompson. Costly, that.

  15. St Helens 0-16 Sydney Roosterspublished at 28 mins

This was the scene about half an hour ago as the two teams entered the field at Langtree Park.

Unfortunately for St Helens, all of the pyrotechnics are coming from Sydney Roosters in this first half.

  16. try

TRY (Ferguson, con Hastings)published at 25 mins

    St Helens 0-16 Sydney Roosters

At a time when St Helens looked as if they were regaining some composure, their defence is sliced open.

Jake Friend scampers away, finds Jackson Hastings and while there are questions about if the pass is forward, Blake Ferguson canters in.

Saints in all sorts of bother.

It's a critical time for Saints. For 15 minutes they looked in a good contest, but a bit of the wind has gone out of their sails.

  18. try

TRY (Guerra, con Hastings)published at 21 mins

Sydney Roosters sweeping forward with confidence now.

Hard luck for St Helens as they deal with the initial attack down the right, but Tommy Makinson's foot slips into touch.

On the repeat set, Aidan Guerra crashes over for Roosters' second try courtesy of ricocheted kick.

  19. St Helens 0-4 Sydney Roosterspublished at 18 mins

Some confusion in the lead-up to that Sydney Roosters try - St Helens half-back Luke Walsh kicked the ball forward following a Roosters handling error, thinking there was a "free play" advantage.

However, as this game is being played under international rules, the free play is not in operation.

Within a minute or two, Kane Evans had gone over for the first try of this year's World Club Series.

Kane Evans showing great power to touch down. The video referee watches the replay back, but it was all good by the Sydney Roosters prop.

All the build up was from Latrell Mitchell, with an incredible run leaving St Helens exposed.
