St Helens defend a fourth set and Daniel Tupou let's it slip for Sydney Roosters out wide with Tommy Makinson putting the pressure on.
Saints answering a lot of questions early on.
Sydney Roosters with the first sight of the try line and they manage to get repeat sets. The Chooks bunker down and the ball is shifted left with Mitchell Aubusson going close.
Saints are penalised and the Roosters go again. Some brilliant defending by the hosts and it is a goal-line drop out as Roosters hooker Jake Friend puts Saints under pressure with a grubber kick.

Quote MessageNikorima's gone off with a head knock that potentially could see him miss the rest of the game. The Roosters have got a hooker and three big guys on the bench, which could upset the balance of their team.

May not be the case with Jayden Nikorima off the field after that blow...
Both sides just feeling each other out in their early sets.
Sydney Roosters half-back Jackson Hastings puts a huge kick up and it is defused well by Saints, but as he chases in Jayden Nikorima takes a head knock and is helped off for the Roosters. Rough start to his Chooks career.
A few big early hits. Alex Walmsley with a huge hit-up for St Helens.
First set of six comes to nothing. Bit of a wasted chance that.

Here. We. Go.
St Helens get the World Club Series off and running. And Jack Owens' kick is allowed to go dead. Great start by the hosts.
Saints with first use of the football now.

Want a try? Need a try? Chances are that Daniel Tupou is the man to deliver.
The highly decorated winger - New South Wales, Australia and even former Tonga international - topped Sydney Roosters' try-scoring chart in with 16 last season. He also charted well for line breaks, so watch this space...

There are a few youngsters in the Sydney Roosters side tonight, but nowhere on the field will attention be more focused than on the halves pairing of Jayden Nikorima, 19, and 20-year-old Jackson Hastings.
There is plenty expected of the immensely talented Hastings, who goes from understudy to first-choice half-back after Mitchell Pearce was stood down when footage emerged of him committing lewd and drunken acts. James Maloney's departure has accentuated the pressure on the rookie.

A tough-tackling hooker and clever operator out of dummy half with a solid kicking game. The 26-year-old is yet to win Australian or State of Origin representative honours, but that is only because of the world-class figure of Cameron Smith ahead of him.
Tonight is his first experience of the English game, conditions and atmosphere. Seems to have been enough to lift him during the week while dealing with the alien cold conditions in February.

Quote MessageIt does work for me, but I think the timing of it is an issue. At the moment, the NRL teams haven't had a game and it's almost like their warm-up game, while our guys are two or three rounds in. It's certainly whetted the fans' appetites and the games have been really well supported.

St Helens captain Jon Wilkin says British sides must prove that they can compare to their more illustrious and better-financed southern hemisphere NRL rivals in the World Club Series.
"Super League versus the NRL is a big thing isn't it?" Wilkin told BBC Merseyside.
"We need to show our competition still has got merits and show young guys they should want to stay and play in our competition."
Oh, it is personal as Wilkin's Saints were on the end of a record World Club Challenge loss to Sydney Rabbitohs a year ago. Just thought that was worth reiterating.
St Helens v Sydney Roosters (20:00 GMT)
The only time since 1994 that the World Club Challenge has been hosted in Australia and Sydney Roosters ran riot against a Wigan Warriors fresh from securing a British rugby league double.
Sonny Bill Williams, that cross-code marvel, was among the Roosters on a day that would hang over Wigan for the rest of a disappointing 2014 season, which ended in Grand Final defeat by St Helens.

Quote MessageIt's a fantastic atmosphere and you can feel the buzz around the place. The less said about last year, the better. Tonight's a new challenge.

"Forgettable" pretty much sums up St Helens' experience of last year's World Club Challenge.
There was incredible hype around the match, with South Sydney Rabbitohs' co-owner and actor Russell Crowe giving the biggest club game in the world a Hollywood feeling.
But this was a horror movie for Saints, as they suffered a record 39-0 loss.
