    Wigan 10-0 Cronulla

How Cronulla have not got on the scoresheet yet, I'm not quite sure.

Again they target the left-hand flank, where Lewis Tierney puts grubber-kick out of play with his boot.

Another goal-line drop-out to defend for the Super League champions.

  2. NO TRY: Wigan 10-0 Cronullapublished at 32 mins

Kurt Capewell climbs above Lewis Tierney to try to take a high kick and touch down in the left-hand corner.

The referee thought there was a knock-on, but the ball went straight through his arms, onto his leg, and was then touched down.

All that remains is to check whether he got it down before it went into touch on the left... no try!

    There were millimetres in that.

Cronulla ground the ball again, but was the ball knocked on?

The referee says no try, but the video referee will take a look.

    Wigan 10-0 Cronulla

The frustration is starting to show for Cronulla, as the teams come together for a little bit of pushing and shoving.

The NRL champions have done plenty right, but Wigan have been far more clinical.

    Wigan 10-0 Cronulla

Wigan's defending inside their own half has been absolutely ferocious.

Matt Prior takes the ball on for Cronulla 15 metres out, but spills it under a crunching tackle.

Another Sharks set of six ends with Joe Burgess taking a high kick in the air, with the visitors penalised for making the tackle before he reached the ground.

  6. 'A very un-Wigan-like try'published at 25 mins

If Wigan do win and become world champions, that passage of play may well be instrumental.

They defended two full sets on their own line, came away, sped up the play-the-ball and played what they saw.

A high-quality play, and that was very un-Wigan-like because there was no structure whatsoever. They played what they saw.

    This is incredible.

After surviving waves of Cronulla attacks, Wigan once again shift the ball quickly out to the left, where Joe Burgess steps inside and slides over for his second try of the match.

Morgan Escare makes no mistake with the conversion this time.

    Wigan 4-0 Cronulla

Wigan are caught offside, allowing Sharks to start their attack from just over the half-way line.

Again, Sharks work the ball down to the goal-line, with Lewis Tierney having to knock a grubber kick dead.

Still more defending for Warriors to do from the drop-out.

Wigan still lead, though they've had to do more of the defending in this first 20 minutes.

When they do get close to the Sharks line, their opponents look a bit rattled, as Wade Graham drops a high kick.

Fortunately for Cronulla, Gerard Beale recovers it and keeps the damage down to just a goal-line drop-out.

Wade Graham might be a bit fortunate to avoid a yellow card here.

The Sharks man is tackled by Sam Powell and throws his forearm into the face of the Wigan man on the ground.

The referee gives him a long talking to, but does not produce a card.

Wigan are renowned for their game being built around a brutal defence. This year is going to be no different.

    Wigan 4-0 Cronulla

Wigan will be concerned by how much ground Sharks are making with most of their carries, with another penalty handing the Australians a set of six inside their half.

The hosts again get a bit of luck as Cronulla shift the ball to the left, with a knock-on relieving the pressure for now.

    Wigan 4-0 Cronulla

Wigan knock the ball on inside Cronulla territory, but better defence from the hosts forces Sharks to kick from their own half.

It's been a very even start to the game.

  14. NO TRY: Wigan 4-0 Cronullapublished at 8 mins

Luke Lewis catches a kick from 10 metres out and touches the ball down, but the try is disallowed as team-mate Jesse Raimen was offside.

    A warning for the hosts.

Cronulla think they have a try, but the referee thinks a Sharks player was offside.

This one will have to be reviewed as well...

That's a very acrobatic finish and he got it down just inside the field of play. Well done to the referee and touch judge - they called it a try and were proved right.

What a fantastic start for Wigan Warriors.

TRY: Wigan 4-0 Cronullapublished at 4 mins

    Joe Burgess

Brilliant interception by Lewis Tierney as Wigan hold Cronulla at bay close to their own line.

He can't stay on his feet to run the ball back, but Wigan use their possession to drive to the other end of the pitch and work the ball out to Joe Burgess on the left.

The winger just manages to ground the ball in the corner before he goes out into touch, and Wigan have an early lead.

Morgan Escare can't add the two points.
