    Australia 6-0 England

If you're under any illusions as to what Ian Millward is talking about, then I'll enlighten you.

England are hitting hard, shoulders in and up into rib-cages, smothering and stopping the Kangaroos in their tracks.

Australia are still flying in and putting their attacking shape on England but bar Boyd Cordner's score, there's much to be happy about defensively.

England have caused Australia problems but it's been the end product over the try line that they just haven't been able to do. Worryingly Australia look menacing with the ball and Billy Slater is looking dangerous.

  4. Watch: Cordner gives Australia the leadpublished at 09:36 Greenwich Mean Time 2 December 2017

If you missed it, here's the opening try of this final from Australia's Boyd Cordner.

Sam Burgess and Cooper Cronk having a tet-a-tet in back-play.

England meanwhile get a bit of field position, a decent kick from Luke Gale gets the Kangaroos right back in their own red-zone as they begin their set.

The Lions have readjusted after the early try. Much better. Cooper Cronk has been set about a few times and he doesn't like it!

Spot on. Jermaine McGillvary has been brilliant so far but I feel if that ball had been released earlier by Kallum Watkins, McGillvary was away.

England need to build pressure. They have to be clinical here and build pressure with Gale.

    Oh so close!

England work the ball out right with a couple of smart block plays and the ball eventually goes to Jermaine McGillvary who has a burst but spills it close to the line.

Australia then get a relieving penalty. Ominous for England. They've had pressure with no reward.

Few interchanges being made on both sides, as Tom Burgess comes on for England while Reagan Campbell-Gillard and Jordan McLean are on for the Kangaroos.

England looking to clear their lines and then get a penalty. Matt Gillett scuttles away ruefully. Holding in the ruck.

It was too tight. They were trying to create space in an area where there was not enough space, if that makes sense? No chance from there really.

Kieran: i've never seen such bad refereeing, and it's only been 17 minutes played. Australian ref, and Australia in the final, has to be pretty biased...

There have been a few tweets like this...

Chris Hill drives into the 10... then an England penalty.

They tap it. Ryan Hall rumbles down the left on a short-side play but there wasn't enough room and Australia snuff it out.

Missed chance. England just lacked a bit of patience and calm there. That is encouraging though, all the same.

Ryan Hall clutches a Billy Slater kick on the last out on the England left and draws the ball in to safety.

Big moment for England. They survive. Decent set takes them into the Kangaroos half and a great kick from Luke Gale is fielded on the touchline deep in the Australia half.

Then a forced error by Australia, England hassling. Elliott Whitehead nicked it off Val Holmes, ball was then knocked on by the Green and Golds.

    England opportunity.

England concede a penalty through Sam Burgess in a ruck with Aaron Woods. It's harsh but Australia played it cutely.

Dangerous running from the Aussies is eating up metres.

As much as they've defended well in this half England, they need to find their rhythm again quickly.

It is a vital 10 minutes coming up for them.

Australia, with Cameron Smith, are the masters of scoring back-to-back tries.

    Australia try

    Pressure told.

Australia's relentless hammering on the England door eventually buckles the defence, and it's the left-edge ram-rod of back-rower Boyd Cordner who cracks the nut.

The Sydney Roosters and New South Wales player takes advantage of a tiring England line to brush aside the last man and bust a gap. Australia have a deserved lead.

England on the rack. Australia bashing away left, right and centre.

Somehow there's no score... then a soaring kick to the corner see Ryan Hall climb ahead of Dane Gagai to gather but came from the field of play.

Goal-line drop out again. Four sets in a row. England wobbling...

I think Kallum Watkins was trying to catch that or bat it back but you never want to do that.

Awkward kick from Cooper Cronk is dinked into the England in-goal and Kallum Watkins makes a bit of a fluff of it.

Elliott Whitehead grounds it to avoid conceding a try but the Kangaroos get a drop out and a repeat set...

...then a penalty shortly after the drop out! They're ramping up the pressure.
