Who would have thought London would win 10 matches this season and be relegated from Super League? The Broncos got so close in their first season back in the top flight but ultimately it wasn't enough as a 19-10 defeat at Wakefield sent them down.

Hull KR could breathe a sigh of relief as their golden-point defeat by Salford would've seen them relegated to the Championship had London managed victory over Trinity.

Huddersfield were the other team under threat but they took care of their own business by winning against Catalans, with Louis Senior scoring four tries.

At the other end of the table, Hull FC couldn't get the win they needed over St Helens to clinch the final play-off spot, so instead Castleford complete the top five.

A very honest London Broncos captain Jay Pitts has been speaking to Sky Sports after his side were relegated from Super League.

"It's hard to put into words just how disappointed we all are.

"I feel like we let ourselves down tonight, we didn't play anything like as well as have at other times this season and that's tough to take.

"I've loved going out there with these boys this season, it's been brilliant but it's just so disappointing."

"I'm gutted. It's tough to take, but we've got to regroup, rebuild and go again.

"We'll reflect in a few days. It's been good and we've had a lot of positives. We'll learn from it and know where we need to get better.

"Wakefield dominated the field position, ran harder than us, they defended well. We didn't play badly, but Wakefield are a good side and shouldn't be down here battling for survival. They just played at the right end of the field."

An emotional Wakefield coach Chris Chester looked absolutely exhausted speaking to Sky Sports after his side's win clinched survival and sent London down.

"That was a special win tonight. I've never felt pressure like that in my life, I wasn't calm at all, even though it might have looked like it.

"I'm really proud of that effort and thought we deserved to win. We were in that position heading into tonight from our own doing, we can't make excuses, and I was really proud of that performance.

"I feel for Danny Ward and London. He's done a fantastic job they've proved a lot of people wrong. They went down fighting and Danny has made a good name for himself as a Super League coach."

My favourite bit of that interview? A young Wakefield fan interrupted Chris Chester to shout "WE ARE SUPER LEAGUE" and he sternly, but politely said "alright get out of the way."

Brilliant.

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith tells BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra:

"We didn't get the win, we blew it in the last minute of the regular match and I'm really disappointed to let that try in, but jeez we fought hard.

"I'm really grateful to Wakefield - they got the job done that we probably should have done last week (by beating London).

"We want to become a strong club and not be in this scrap each and every year. Even if we'd have gone down, I'd still have been excited about our future. We'll get there."

London coach Danny Ward was disappointed but philosophical speaking to Sky Sports after his side was relegated from Super League with that defeat by Wakefield.

"I'm so proud of the boys but it just wasn't to be tonight, we just weren't quite good enough.

"It's a bit of adversity, a bit of a blip but we'll come back stronger. To think 80% of those lads were Championship players, they've been brilliant and have improved as the year has gone. They've made me look good as a coach.

"Hopefully we'll be back in a couple of years, thanks for having us in Super League."

Wakefield's Danny Brough tells BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra that victory over London and survival in Super League is "like a weight has been lifted".

Trinity are safe.

London didn't lack effort but they didn't take the couple of chances they needed to take to stay in the game.

It's gone now. To win 10 games and not be in Super League next year - you've got to feel sorry for them.

The Red Devils have finished third in Super League and will play Wigan next week in the qualifying final.

The benefit of finishing third is that they can lose next week and still be involved in the play-offs.

Wakefield chairman Michael Carter on BBC Radio 5 Live Sports Extra:

"We're very relieved. We've just got to be a whole lot better next season when we come up against adversity.

"We've had 21 major operations and that's knocked the stuffing out of us, but we've got to be stronger physically and mentally next season.

"I don't want to be in this position again."

Victory for the Giants. They did their job tonight, helped by four Louis Senior tries, and are safe in Super League for another season.

More good news for Salford - Leeds have scored again against Warrington and are 26-4 up, meaning the Red Devils could lose in golden point extra-time and they'll still finish third.

What a season they've had. Don't write them off in the play-offs.

This ought to be petering out as London will be a Championship side in a few minutes but they seem determined to enjoy the final knockings of Super League action by thundering into every tackle and every carry.

It's really just a matter of time now though.
