So Salford become the eighth club to reach a Super League Grand Final since it was introduced as the title decider in 1998.

    More from Ian Watson:

"I think it breathes life into the competition and gives everybody a boost outside the normal top four or five.

"If you think about how many teams have been to or won a Grand Final, you can count them on one hand.

"For a club like Salford to go against the odds and get there, it gives people a hope that if you get good people in and you get a group that'll commit and buy into the things you want them to do, you can have success on the back of it."

"With the adversity we've faced over the past four or five years, it's unbelievable."

There's shell-shock around the place. I think both sets of fans believed their team could win and we all thought it could go either way.

It's the nature of the loss - you've never seen Wigan beaten so much in a play-off game.

The challenge for Salford is to maintain this. I really hope off the back of this that they'll get some more investment and their fan base will start to grow.

If they go on to win it at Old Trafford, it will be brilliant for the game.

A lot of this Salford team are moving on to new clubs in 2020. Among them, Jackson Hastings and Jake Bibby will be joining Wigan next season.
