    Wigan 0-20 Salford

It's difficult to understate what an achievement this will be if Salford reach the Grand Final.

They've been perennial strugglers in Super League for several years. They were even a few minutes away from being relegated in 2016.

And now another Wigan pass goes astray! George Williams the guilty party this time. Salford back with the ball.

Salford coach Ian Watson remains poker-faced on the touchline. Inside, he must be beaming with his team's display. They've been absolutely exceptional.

    Wigan 0-18 Salford

Salford kept Castleford at bay last week and haven't been breached by Wigan tonight.

Add in the final stages of their most recent visit to the DW Stadium, and they have gone for almost two full games without conceding a point. Wigan need 19 of them in the next 30-odd minutes.

The home fans roar their team on as they get a penalty with good field position to attack.

This is now for Salford to lose, really.

They are well and truly in control. It was a fantastic first-half performance and they have started the second half much the brighter side. This is absolutely brilliant.

  13. 'Wigan looked rattled'published at 20:47 British Summer Time 4 October 2019

This is just fantastic. Salford are 12-0 in front for a reason, they have looked calmer and more composed.

Everyone is doing their job and doing it well. They are well organised, well drilled and they are continually going through their processes and are being methodical. Their discipline with and without the ball has been excellent.

Salford have absorbed pressure at times and really Wigan, while they showed signs, they look disjointed in attack and have lacked cohesion.

Wigan are a little rattled and have lost their composure.

There should be plenty of English representation in Sunday's National Rugby League Grand Final between Sydney Roosters and Canberra Raiders.

Ex-Wigan pair John Bateman and Ryan Sutton, plus England duo Elliot Whitehead and Josh Hodgson, are all named in the Raiders' extended squad to face a Roosters side that beat Wigan in February's World Club Challenge.

What a half of rugby league - if you're a Salford fan, that is. Wigan have work to do.

And that's that for the first half.

    My word.

Thanks to a Gil Dudson try and four goals from Krisnan Inu, Salford - who began the season as one of the favourites for relegation - are 40 minutes away from their first ever Grand Final.

  18. PENALTY: Wigan 0-12 Salfordpublished at 40 mins

Just as Wigan look like mounting a break, Liam Farrell is penalised for obstruction and it's another chance for Salford's Krisnan Inu to kick another two points...

Which he does! Salford lead by 12 points with a few seconds to go in the first period.

Wigan are looking a little bit better at the moment after that off-colour start, but Salford are holding them at arm's length for now.

I'm sure Ian Watson and his Red Devils team will be more than content if they can take a 10-point lead into the interval.
