  1. 'What a take from Coote'published at 19:15 British Summer Time 12 October 2019

What a take under the high ball that is from Lachlan Coote, with Salford players racing at him from all angles.

If he makes a mistake there, Salford are level. If Saints go on to win this, that could be a huge moment.

This is even stevens so far in this second half.

Jackson Hastings pops up another bomb but Saints full-back Lachlan Coote does brilliantly to come through a crowd of bodies and claim the ball.

Although Coote's attempted offload to Zeb Taia then hits the turf, Saints are awarded a pressure-relieving penalty.

St Helens' Krisnan Inu requires treatment after being wrestled to the ground by three Saints defenders.

Jack Ashworth comes in late and hard with a shoulder into the chest and then pops his head against the Salford wing for good measure.

Referee Chris Kendall asks for a second opinion from the video referee but Ashworth escapes sanction.

Hello? What's Tommy Makinson done there.

He tries to run through the Salford defence but goes down awkwardly in the tackle with Kris Welham.

It looks like he may have injured his shoulder or right arm.

Kyle: If Salford start the second half as they finished the first half then they will have every chance and it will set us up for a superb second half.

Salford kicking off gives them the chance to gain a bit of early territory.

Jackson Hastings launches the ball high, high, high but Tommy Makinson never, ever looked like dropping that. Excellent take.

  10. 'Salford will be going in with confidence'published at 18:58 British Summer Time 12 October 2019

    HT: St Helens 12-6 Salford

    Kevin Brown
England international half-back on BBC Radio 5 Live

The first half was so frantic, Salford were like boxers hanging on early on and if you were a coach then you'd throw the towel in but Salford hung in there and they looked dangerous whenever they got a chance threaten at Saints' line.

As as soon as Tui Lolohea had that disallowed try it was a trigger to say lets get into our momentum.

They will be going in with confidence.

I've just seen the half-time stats and I'm amazed by how close they are given how Saints dominated that first 30 minutes.

But Salford only made 16 more tackles (209 to 193) than St Helens.

And even in metres made, they clocked up 641 to Saints' 766.

It was all St Helens early on - wave after wave - but it was the resilience of Salford's defensive structure that allowed them to stay in the contest and then all of a sudden it swung and became all Salford in the last 10 to 15 minutes of that half.

I think Ian Watson, the Salford coach, will be really pleased with the way his team has performed.

And that is half-time. It's been a pulsating 40 minutes and leaves us no clearer to knowing who will lift the trophy at around 20:00 BST this evening.

Saints bossed the first 30 minutes and scored twice through Morgan Knowles and Zeb Taia as the Salford defence was breached by wave after wave of attack.

But the Red Devils came into the game in the closing 10 minutes and Jake Bibby's score has them right back in it.

What makes Jackson Hastings different from other players this year in Super League is the amount of touches he gets within 80 minutes of rugby league, he tests and teases defences.

I think he's been a bit shell shocked with the occasion, he's not quite had that influence but in the last 10 minutes it's all been about him.

Salford march the ball back into St Helens territory and kick deep to near the goalline.

Saints will have the ball for one last time before the break, but if they're going to do anything with it they will have to go the length of the pitch.

Three minutes to go before the break. You sense that Salford are really pumped for this now after the ferocious pace that St Helens set in that opening 30 minutes.

    St Helens 12-6 Salford

    Phil Cartwright

Salford captain Lee Mossop, off the field after a draining early stint, was straight down the touchline to congratulate Jake Bibby while Krisnan Inu was slotting over a difficult kick at goal from the touchline.

Mossop was also dishing out instructions to his centre. Having looked in danger of being overwhelmed in this Grand Final, Salford are right back in it before half-time.

More and more of the game is now being played in the St Helens half.

Now it's Justin Holbrook's side's turn to struggle to make metres and have to kick deep at the end of their sets.

That play was all about Jackson Hastings - he constructed that, he got himself in the right position and offloaded it to Jake Bibby.

We needed that from Salford, who have really settled in the last five or six minutes.

We've got a game on for the Grand Final!

It had literally been all St Helens before Tui Lolohea's run and then Jake Bibby's try.

But suddenly it's very much game on. They've not given up on this by any means.
