Saints will go in with their spirits lifted and quite buoyant after that Tommy Makinson try.

They'll say, 'we can't play any worse than that again in the second half'.

But, for sure, the first points of the second half will be critical and i they go Saints' way, you'd be hard-pressed to write them off.

Tommy Makinson's conversion attempt was the final play of the half.

Castleford bossed that first half, with Derrell Olpherts' double seemingly putting them in control. But that Makinson try has just given Saints a bit of hope.

A really good finish by Tommy Makinson and some really good build-up play too.

Makinson doesn't need asking twice for a chance like that and he's just got over in the corner.

It puts a different complexion on both team talks at half-time for sure.

    Tommy Makinson

Talk about a try out of nothing. Just as I thought Castleford might fancy another try before the break, St Helens get it instead.

There seemed to be little on, but Tommy Makinson shows why he is one of the world's best finishers as he powers his way over in the corner before missing with his own conversion attempt.

    Castleford 14-0 St Helens

Never mind Castleford getting another set.... has Tommy Makinson given St Helens a lifeline?

    Castleford 14-0 St Helens

Castleford don't want this half to end - St Helens can't wait for the hooter to regroup.

The Tigers will get one more set before the break by the looks of it.

That was a bit like "umpire's call" in cricket.

If there's no definitive evidence on screen for the television official to overturn the on-field decision - it has to stand.

It was probably a matter of millimetres away from being no try.

It's given! And it's a brilliant finish from Derrell Olpherts as Castleford score in the right corner for the third time.

Once again, Tigers move the ball wide with fast hands and Olpherts somehow dives over and touches the ball down as Jonny Lomax throws the kitchen sink at him in the tackle.

It was a fraction of a second between Olpherts getting this ball down and his foot ending up in touch.

Danny Richardson again misses with a difficult conversion.

    Castleford 10-0 St Helens

Derrell Olpherts thinks he's in at the corner for Castleford - but has Jonny Lomax got across just in time to push him out of play.

    The video referee will decide...

So what can Castleford do with a man's advantage in the closing minutes before half-time.

You sense the Tigers could dew this game up if they can score a try or two more.

Just what St Helens didn't need - Matty Lees goes into the sin-bin for a high tackle on Jordan Rankin as the visitors try to put some life into their game.

In his defence, Rankin was on the way down after claiming a kick as Lees steamed in.

This Casleford defence is absolutely hunting and hammering this Saints attack.

It's giving them absolutely no time to play and that's exactly what you need to do against this side.

Castleford are camped in St Helens territory again.

A big kick goes up and Regan Grace rises to claim it near his own line. Saints can't get decent field position to start from.

It's all Castleford at the moment. Former Saint Danny Richardson is at the heart of everything for Tigers but this time his pass ends up in the hands of St Helens wing Regan Grace as Cas sniff another try.

Saints look tired. They're doing so much defending that there's little in the tank when they have the ball.

It's delicious from Cas. A real treat from the A La Carte menu that try from Derrell Olpherts.

The execution of play was perfect to strip the St Helens defensive line of numbers.

Danny Richardson once again at the heart of it.

You can't say it wasn't coming. Castleford swing the ball wide to the right and Peter Mata'utia's beautiful soft hands send Derrell Olpherts over in the corner.

This time Danny Richardson's kick swings across the face of the posts.

    Castleford 6-0 St Helens

Castleford can't take advantage this time and the ball is turned over deep in St Helens territory.

But the champions just aren't on it - they knock on and Tigers can challenge their defence again with a set of six.

St Helens aren't doing themselves any favours here. A succession of penalties against them hands Castleford good field position again....
