Castleford really have built up the pressure through slightly shading the possession so far, but they've certainly had the territory since the start.

They've been rewarded there for spending a good amount of time in the St Helens half.

A very muscular effort there from Peter Mata'utia to ground the ball for the try.

Peter Mata'utia takes a pass from Danny Richardson on the burst and carries three Saints players with him over the line before touching down.

There are some serious hits going in during the early stages of this game!

At the end of a Saints set Lachlan Coote clips a lovely grubber kick through but it drifts out of play behind the Cas in-goal area just before Theo Fages can touch down.

Castleford work the ball wide for Derrell Olpherts to fight his way over the line.

But Tigers' joy is shortlived as play is pulled back for obstruction by George Griffin in midfield in the build-up.

Some solid early sets from both sides. However, Morgan Knowles knocks on at the play-the-ball in midfield and gifts Castleford the best field position of the game so far.

The atmosphere here and the character of this ground with the crowd on top of you, it does count a lot in Castleford's favour as the home side.

But, you can't underestimate a side of the quality of St Helens. They are a squad of well-established operators.

It should be a fantastic contest.

RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer told BBC Radio 5 live that they had a number of contingency plans in mind if games have to be called off because of coronavirus.

“We’ve submitted many options and that (playing behind closed doors) is one of them," he said. "We have to be realistic about the position that we’re in.

"Nevertheless this sport has shown itself to be resilient over the last 125 years and hopefully we’re going to be very collegiate over the next couple days and find some ways forward. We face a test, as does the rest of the country.

“In any modelling that we do going forward we have to consider player welfare issues, competition integrity issues and keeping the clubs solvent.”

  16. Will Super League continue?published at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 15 March 2020

Castleford v St Helens (15:30 GMT)

Super League's clubs are due to meet on Monday to discuss how the game goes forward, but RFL chief executive Ralph Rimmer would not be drawn about whether this afternoon's game at The Jungle might be the last we see for a while.

“I won’t pre-empt any decision from government," he told BBC Radio 5 live. "We have managed to liaise with them regularly and they have been very direct with their guidance.

“What we have done is circulated lots of different modelling to the professional clubs and we’ll be meeting them early this week to talk about what the options may look like in the future.

“But until anything changes we’ll be going forward.

“We need to be collegiate in everything we do going forward and clearly it is a test, but if we work together we can get through it."

While much of the domestic sporting landscape has been suspended in the wake of the coronavirus outbreak, rugby league has carried on.

And the Rugby Football League's chief executive Ralph Rimmer defended the sport's stance, insisting they were only following guidance.

"The messaging from government has been straightforward and we've adhered to the guidelines," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"At the moment it's everyone's perogative to choose what they want to do but nevertheless the games are on.

“We’ve spoken with government regularly, probably more than once a day, over the last couple of weeks and have ensured we’ve circulated all the directives from the government to the different clubs so they can take measures which minimise the possibility of contagion.

“At this moment in time in rugby league there are no positive tests."

There's no doubt about it, the main taking point this week has been coronavirus. The way it's already impacting on all our lives and the sporting landscape is incredible.

Rugby League remains one of the few sports that is still taking place but Castleford coach Daryl Powell fears what might happen if it too is suspended or has to play behind closed doors.

"It's a serious issues around the world and people are starting to take it more seriously now, and sport in general is being affected," he told BBC Radio Leeds.

"I don't think [suspending the season or playing behind closed doors] is an option for rugby league. That's pretty tough and there will need to be some serious thought about what is done.

"Financially, football can probably cop it but I don't think rugby league can so there will be some serious thinking going on behind closed doors to see what needs to be done.

"It's a tough situation and everyone needs to come up with contingency plans and if it gets worse and worse they might be extreme."
