Talk about against the run of play but there was great play in the back-field.

But if I'm brutally honest, the defence from Warrington wasn't where it needed to be for the short-side play.

Warrington will be scratching their heads because they've dictacted the play so far.

Shaun Kenny-Dowall knocks on, which is the third time Hull KR have done so right in the early stages of their pursuit of territory.

He looks frustrated. Warrington are hammering them at the minute, but will take those sorts of errors all night long.

Sitaleki Akauola bumps Brad Takairangi out of the way with his upper arm in a Warrington dash into the Hull KR half of the field.

Takairangi is forced off for the time being to be assessed.

In under 15 minutes of this match, it's felt like more has happened than in the entirety of last night's eliminator.

Mikey Lewis is right in the mix at the minute. He sends a 40-20 attempt up the other end of the field, this time putting Warrington under pressure.

Tom Lineham just about recovers the ball before it goes out but Warrington are scrambling to defend now!

Having seen a replay of Daryl Clark's near miss try attempt, credit must go to Will Dagger.

The Hull KR full-back was called into action and went on to thwart his efforts to ground the ball.

Meanwhile, from the restart there's a brief pause as Mikey Lewis is on the receiving end of a huge tackle from Chris Hill.

The Warrington man is put on report.

That is a massive let off for Hull KR, but it had been coming.

This couldn't be more of a contrast to last night's eliminator between Wigan and Leeds.

Whereas last night felt a bit drab at times, already Warrington are playing with a fair bit of gusto.

Chris Hill, in his final home game for the hosts before his move to Huddersfield next term, is bossing the proceedings every time the Wire get the ball.

There's a succession of knock-ons from Hull KR as they struggle to get going in this game.

However, fortunately for the visitors, Warrington knock on themselves, right in the build-up to Jake Mamo rising high to try and bring the ball down over the line.

A good contest so far.

These are two sides who love to throw the ball around, love to play attacking rugby.

More often that not, when I watch Hull KR they excite me and they're probably the neutral's favourite.

Mike Cooper and Stefan Ratchford are cruising through Hull KR in the early stages and Warrington look absolutely buoyed by a vocal home crowd.

It's early days at the minute, but Hull KR certainly looked startled as the Wire battered their way upfield.

Hull KR head coach Tony Smith says his team have been underdogs all year as they prepare to face Warrington in the play-off eliminator.

The Robins finished sixth after finishing last in 2020.

"We go into it as underdogs but that suits us. I think we have been considered that all season," he told BBC Radio Humberside.

"Most people have said how much they have enjoyed how we have played and we have been given a lot of credit and recognition for that.

"I'm really proud of what the group has done this season and how they have gone about their business. Nothing would surprise me."

Both of tonight's teams have representation in this year's Steve Prescott Man of Steel shortlist.

Warrington's Gareth Widdop and Hull KR's Jordan Abdull are up for the award, given annually to Super League's star player.

Hull FC's Jake Connor, St Helens' Jonny Lomax and Catalans' Sam Tomkins complete the five-player shortlist.

Another day, another Super League play-off eliminator to get stuck into.
