And so we've got the first winner of this season's Super League play-off eliminators.

Leeds Rhinos set up their place in next week's semi-finals and a match against either the League Leaders' Shield winners Catalans Dragons or the reigning champions St Helens.

But who will join them? Tomorrow night we do this all over again as the Warrington Wolves take on Hull KR.

I'll be taking you through that on Friday evening. For now, thank you for joining us.

  2. 'I'm leaving a better man than when I came'published at 21:57 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    FT: Wigan 0-8 Leeds

Wigan half-back Jackson Hastings told Sky Sports:

"You always want the fairytale. I fell short twice and fell short again. It's been an honour to play for Wigan and Salford.

"I want to thank the people who put their arm around me when I thought no one would.

"I'm leaving this club a way better man than when I came here and I'm grateful to Wigan and Salford.

"I understand the privilege of what it is to be a professional rugby league player and I didn't respect that previously."

  3. 'The club will rise from this'published at 21:54 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    FT: Wigan 0-8 Leeds

Wigan Warriors boss Adrian Lam told Sky Sports:

"Rugby league is a game of inches and I didn't think we got quite what we needed with the ball.

"I couldn't have asked more of them really and we were gutsy but that's how it ends sometimes.

"I'm sad for everyone. The playing group and staff are amazing and deserve a little more than what we're feeling tonight. The club will rise from this and will be better in the near future.

"I want to say thanks to the fans and I've loved every minute."

  4. 'A tough, gritty game'published at 21:49 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    FT: Wigan 0-8 Leeds

Leeds Rhinos coach Richard Agar told Sky Sports:

"It was a tough, gritty game. I think it's what we expected. They've defended well and points are hard to come by.

"I loved the way we defended. I thought there were some periods in the second half where we came strong with the ball but I thought we looked a bit fatigued in defence too.

"We couldn't come up with a consistent enough kicking game to put Wigan under pressure on their own tryline but we came away with it in the end."

Leeds just did enough. I didn't think they were at their best but they knew they had the measure of Wigan defensively.

You have to give Leeds credit for their gameplan and the commitment and aggression they showed for 80 minutes.

  6. 'We came away with it'published at 21:42 British Summer Time 23 September 2021

    FT: Wigan 0-8 Leeds

Leeds Rhinos winger Ash Handley told Sky Sports:

"It was a tough game. Low scoring, we knew it would be like that against Wigan. They are a strong defensive side and we prepared for that.

"I thought we were really patient. In the first half a few errors cost us but we stuck with it and got away with it in the end.

"We knew we'd get somewhere and in the end we came away with it."

This really is the end of an era for Wigan.

Jackson Hastings and Oliver Gildart have played their last game for the Cherry and Whites and, with Tony Clubb's retirement, they could have a bit of a rebuilding job on their hands for 2022.

Leeds, for what it's worth, grind out the win and deserve their place in the semi-finals.

A gritty game and not the most entertaining, but two formidable sides await the Rhinos.

    And there goes the hooter.

Leeds go through to next week's Super League play-off semi-finals and Catalans or St Helens awaits Richard Agar's side.

Wigan fall to defeat and the Adrian Lam era at the club comes to an end, without much of a fight, at the end of an abject season for the Warriors.

There's a bit of afters in the closing stages of this game involving Oliver Gildart, who's in what's surely his final appearance for Wigan.

He receives an arm to the face as he looks to break up a tussle between the two sides and there's some claret from his bottom lip.

    Wigan 0-8 Leeds

There's a roar from the home crowd as Wigan look to have gained some ground but Ollie Partington concedes a penalty to Leeds for striking as he's held up.

That pretty much sums up Wigan's night. Or season, as it were.

    Wigan 0-8 Leeds

Wigan, despite dominating the possession tonight and with the home crowd behind them, have provided little in the way of answers against Leeds.

I'm not sure either side have played well, but certainly Leeds have made the most of the opportunities presented.

What do Wigan have left in the tank?

It's a big call from Robert Hicks, but he's got that spot on. It's a mountain to climb for Wigan Warriors.

They need to cause chaos in a Leeds defence that has been very comfortable for 73 minutes.

  14. PENALTY: Wigan 0-8 Leedspublished at 74 mins

    Rhyse Martin

Leeds have won a penalty pretty much in front of the posts courtesy of Mikolai Oledzki.

Rhyse Martin sends it through with ease and surely that's enough to send Leeds through.

    Wigan 0-6 Leeds

Kruise Leeming looks to make the most of Leeds being within touching distance of victory here as he sends a drop-goal attempt towards the sticks.

He's wide of the mark, however, and Wigan break upfield once more.

Wigan haven't scored in 70 minutes. To score twice in the last 10 minutes will be very difficult for them.

So, is this how the Adrian Lam era at Wigan ends?

Liam Marshall knocks on deep in Wigan's own half as he tries to roll the ball behind him.

A jeer goes up from the Leeds fans behind him. Can the visitors capitalise and put this play-off tie to bed?

Once again Leeds do well to keep Wigan pegged back as they are forced to send a high ball into the air on the turnover.

And, again, Richie Myler spills it. Only this time he manages to divert it backwards, avoiding knocking on.

    Wigan 0-6 Leeds

Kai Pearce-Paul puts in a nice offload as Wigan look to run in at the left hand side of the field this time but once again Leeds regain the ball.

There's an edgy atmosphere at this stage as Wigan labour their way through this second half.

  20. Postpublished at 62 mins

    Wigan 0-6 Leeds

Leeds could do with settling this one down now as Wigan frantically work into their half of the field.

The hosts almost get in down the right wing and the Rhinos are caught napping just before Jackson Hastings eventually gets to the ball on the turnover.
