  1. TRY REVIEWpublished at 15:46 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

Max Evans has only just entered the action but he comes to his side's rescue as he just manages to stop Jamie Heaslip from going over following brilliant work by Jonny Sexton. The referees wants help from the television match official. No try.

Can do better will be the message from both Joe Schmidt and Scott Johnson as half-time approaches. To be honest, it has not been much of a spectacle and the Scots have lacked a killer instinct. Stuart Hogg with a lovely pass behind his back as Scotland move through the phases. Not for the first time, their indiscipline costs them.

Ex-Ireland winger Denis Hickie: "When you saw the intensity between England and France last night this is not in the same ball park. Such a stop start game at the moment."

Tanya Smith:, external Ouch! Hope Maitland is not too badly hurt.

Former Ireland hooker on BBC One

"It has been very stop-start. The first 10 minutes were very intense, with Scotland having a lot of possession without making any intrusions into the Ireland line.

"It was horrible to see the way Sean Maitland landed on his ankle."

Game over for Scotland wing Sean Maitland after landing horribly on his right ankle following a challenge with Dave Kearney. That paves the way for Max Evans to enter the action with his team very much in this.

Real pressure on the Irish defence with the hosts defending deep in their 22. Impressive drive towards the Irish line by David Denton but the Edinburgh number eight is stopped in his tracks before he can touch down. Scotland have the momentum.

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Ex-Ireland winger Denis Hickie: "That was an inch perfect kick from Weir right inside the Ireland five-metre line but Rob Kearney managed to get over and knock it back as he was running at full tilt - brilliant skill from both of them."

    Phillip Matthews
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

"Scotland are making themselves really awkward in the mauls, disrupting Ireland's play. They are doing exactly what they should be doing."

Neil Stone:, external I'm convinced the Scotland team do not know the rules of rugby. They consistently give away penalties in every match.

Martin:, external Hang in there Scotland.

Martin Little:, external This is going to be close… Two even teams.

We could do with some of those fireworks that greeted the players when they first came onto the pitch. This is tame stuff. Perhaps Ireland are still coming to terms with the loss of Paul O'Connell. Scotland will be relatively pleased so far.

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland full-back on BBC One

"As soon as there is an opportunity to turnover the ball, both teams are firing bodies in to compete. It is really aggressive work."

  14. Postpublished at 15:27 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

    Phillip Matthews
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

"Thus far, Ireland's wingers are working very hard running lines off the ball. People like Rory Best have been deciding to hold onto the ball rather than using them - maybe that will change as the game goes on.

"There was a lot of talk about the time Jonathan Sexton takes over his penalty kicks after the New Zealand game, but he did not take too long then."

  15. PENALTY (Sexton)published at 15:25 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

Still waiting for this to burst into life but Ireland have their noses in front again after the visitors concede a penalty. Jonny Sexton takes advantage. You can hear a pin drop as the crowd goes silent before the Racing Metro man sends a textbook kick over.

Ryan McCullough:, external No matter how many times I see it, always get amazed at how quiet 50,000 people can go whenever there is a kick being taken!

  17. Postpublished at 15:23 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Ireland winger Denis Hickie: On balance Scotland deserve those three points, They're putting together the phases and stretching the hosts, but Ireland know Scotland struggle to score tries and they must stop giving them kickable penalties.

  18. PENALTY (Laidlaw)published at 15:21 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

To be honest it has not been a great start to this fixture, but Scotland are back on level terms thanks to Greig Laidlaw's boot. Why the penalty was awarded has baffled Ireland's players who believe there was a stamp on Jonny Sexton in the ruck Ireland were penalised at.

  19. Postpublished at 15:20 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

Referee Craig Joubert has his work cut out. The South Africa official has already had to stop play on several occasions to lecture Ireland's players. Nearly a lovely offload from history-maker Brian O'Driscoll for Chris Henry but the flanker just can't hold on to it. Nice rhythm from Ireland.

  20. Postpublished at 15:16 Greenwich Mean Time 2 February 2014

    Chris Paterson
Former Scotland full-back on BBC One

"It is frustrating from Scotland's point of view, as they did very well to win the ball from an Irish line-out only for Kelly Brown to be penalised.

"The referees seem to be focusing on players not rolling away, judging by the early games in the Six Nations."
