Northampton last lifted the Challenge Cup when they beat Bourgoin 15-3 in 2009. Tonight, the Arms Park belongs to the Saints as Tom Wood and Phil Dowson take a handle each to lift the trophy high into the Cardiff night sky.

BBC Radio Bristol's Tom Bradshaw at Cardiff Arms Park: "The immediate reaction from a glum Dave Attwood is that this final loss is a 'character-building process' for Bath.

"They had a chance to deliver the killer blow when Saints had Alex Corbisiero sin-binned early in the second-half but a lack of composure cost them.

"The West Country side will rue George Ford's three missed penalties in little over 10 minutes, and they were ultimately taught a lesson in match-winning composure by Myler, Wood and Co."

Bath full-back Nick Abendanon told Sky Sports: "It's very hard to take considering where we were at half-time. We showed a lot of dominance in that first half, especially in our defence to put them under a lot of pressure and then Anthony Watson's runaway try put us in a good position.

"We tried to emulate that in the second half but a couple of kicks slid away to the side and suddenly they're back in it with Stephen Myler kicking as well as he did.

"I've had an amazing time at Bath. It would have topped it off to win tonight but that wasn't the case."

The Grad Medic:, external Bath have lacked the clinical finish all season. So frustrating. It's like they're scared of succeeding!!

William Searle:, external Tough for George Ford, glimpses of real class tonight. Stick him on the plane to New Zealand, that'll sort him out.

Northampton fly-half Stephen Myler told Sky Sports: "It feels amazing. We had a bit of success in this tournament five years ago and we wanted to replicate that.

"It was a tough first half when Bath really came at us but we stuck together and came up with a plan and it paid dividends.

"We were in a similar situation last week and we didn't panic. It doesn't matter if it takes until the 80th minute to win it. It is about who is in front then."

So, for the second week running, Northampton stage a stunning second-half fightback to win the game and end their run of losing finals. In doing so they have also ended Bath's run of seven successive victories against English clubs in this competition. Sadly for Bath, they become the first side to be runners-up in the Challenge Cup three times.

"A superb performance from the deserved man of the match, Stephen Myler. There was so much talk before the game about who would come out on top between him and George Ford but there's no question in the end."

  13. TRY - Foden (missed con Myler)published at 21:46 British Summer Time 23 May 2014

Stephen Myler has been magnificent and his interception starts the move that surely wins the game for Northampton. The fly-half doesn't have the pace to go all the way but he has George Pisi and Luther Burrell in support. A brilliant tap tackle by Nick Abendanon denies Burrell, who still makes it over the line but is held up. But Ben Foden has the speed of mind to rip the ball from this team-mate and touch down, with the TMO confirming the try. The only surprise is that Myler shanks his conversion wide.

  14. TRY - Dowson (con Myler)published at 21:41 British Summer Time 23 May 2014

But 14-man Bath's respite doesn't last long as Northampton again drive from the line-out and Phil Dowson is credited with touching the ball down amid a mass of bodies. Stephen Myler again makes no mistake from the tee to take his haul to 20 points.

  15. SIN BIN - Perenisepublished at 21:41 British Summer Time 23 May 2014

And it really should have paid dividends as replacement Alex Waller somehow fails to take a pass when he only had to fall over the line. But Northampton keep the pressure on, and are awarded another penalty with Bath substitute Anthony Perenise sent to the sin-bin for not rolling away.

  16. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:39 British Summer Time 23 May 2014

We've had a raft of substitutions, including Gavin Henson on at centre for Ollie Devoto for Bath and scrum-half Kahn Fotuali'i on for Lee Dickson for Northampton.

Saints have another kickable penalty too but this time Stephen Myler goes for the corner. Saints feel they are on top.

  17. PENALTY - Fordpublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 23 May 2014

The Bath response is immediate as they are awarded the penalty just outside the Saints 22 after Francois Louw wins the ball at the breakdown. Bath skipper Stuart Hooper backs his kicker and George Ford rewards him by making no mistake.

"A fantastic resurgence from Saints in this second half and a real turnaround. They keep building the score and knocking the points over."

And once more Northampton are dominant at the scrum. Ben Foden again clips the ball through but Anthony Watson is across to cover. But the referee was playing an advantage for an infringement at the set-piece and Stephen Myler makes it six from six from the tee.
