A word on Leicester too, whose incredible run of nine consecutive Premiership finals at long last comes to an end. The current champions won't be defending their crown at Twickenham.

Northampton, appearing in the end-of-season play-offs for a fifth season in a row, have now made only their second Twickenham showpiece. And, with an Amlin Challenge Cup final against Bath to look forward to next Friday - which, of course, we hope you'll be joining us for again here on the BBC Sport website - the league and cup double is very much on for Jim Mallinder's men.

Former Northampton and England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

"The only time it counts to be in front is when the final whistle goes and that's where Northampton found themselves, for the first time in the game, right at the end.

"Saints were far from their best but, when it mattered, they got it right. They've matched Leicester physically and it's a breathtaking win."

Northampton are heading for the Premiership final! A breathless match, a remarkable comeback and the most amazing of finales. Tom Wood is the Saints hero - his last-gasp try has inflicted defeat on the reigning champions.

"It's unbelievable! Northampton look like the team who have got 15 players not 14. I can't see Leicester coming back from this now."

  10. TRY - Wood (missed con Myler)published at 21:40 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

There it is! Drama at the death! Tom Wood may have just sent Northampton to Twickenham. Saints switch the ball from right to left and, probing, searching for a gap, the opportunity presents itself at last and Wood squeezes through. Franklin's Gardens erupts. Stephen Myler's conversion hits the post. One minute to survive for Northampton. One minute to rescue the match for Leicester.

Saints, a man short after Salesi Ma'afu's red card, are giving this one almighty go. They're pressing so hard, 10 metres short of the line, but Leicester's defence is magnificent. Northampton have a penalty though and, despite being right under the posts, head for the corner.

We shouldn't be overly surprised that Williams was so cool under immense pressure with that kick - he's actually Leicester's leading points scorer in the Premiership this season. That said, I doubt few penalties have been more important than that one. Five to go.

    Paul Grayson
Former Northampton and England fly-half on BBC Radio 5 live

"A brilliant kick in the circumstances from the young man but that opportunity was completely handed to Leicester by Northampton. It was a needless challenge."

  14. PENALTY - Williamspublished at 21:34 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

Leicester, who've been on the back foot for the vast majority of this second half, are back in Saints territory at last. And it's another infringement at the line-out by Northampton and Tigers have a penalty. Owen Williams, recently on for Toby Flood, converts and the hosts are four ahead once more.

  15. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:30 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

Owen Williams, Graham Kitchener Adam Thompstone come on for Toby Flood, Louis Deacon and Neil Briggs for Leicester. Ryan Wilson and Christian Day replace George Pisi and Sam Manoa for Northampton. Caught your breath yet?

    Chris Jones
    BBC Radio 5 live commentator

"That's why they bought George North. That's why they spent the big bucks, for nights like this and environments like this.

    "What a comeback by Northampton."

  17. CONVERTED TRY - North (con Myler)published at 21:23 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

Game on! And it's George North, who's been out of the game for long periods, who has Northampton right back in the contest. It's another good line-out from the hosts, the ball is worked quickly and North charges over from close range. Myler converts and we have a one-point match on our hands. Only 14 minutes left - who's your money on?

  18. Postpublished at 21:23 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

Looks like we're heading to the TMO again! Northampton's Ben Foden appears to be taken out in the air by Dan Bowden, but referee JP Doyle isn't interested.

  19. SUBSTITUTIONpublished at 21:20 British Summer Time 16 May 2014

There's been a few changes to tell you about in amongst the madness. Tom Mercey and Lee Dickson have replaced Tom Collins and Kahn Fotuali'i for Saints, while Steve Mafi and Neil Briggs are on for Mathew Tait and Jamie Gibson for Tigers.
