Is now the time to remind you that South Africa's record win over Scotland is a 68-10 success at Murrayfield in 1997?

From a Scottish line-out in enemy territory, the ball is flicked into South African hands. Off sprints JP Pietersen and his kick on is gathered up gleefully by winger Lwazi Mvovo. Handre Pollard can't land the extras this time.

This could be a long day for Scotland. From the line-out, South Africa work the ball out to the opposite flank with some slick handling and Willie le Roux plunges over. Handre Pollard is ice cool with a tricky conversion from out wide.

"South Africa will be a massive physical challenge but you have to relish a chance like this," said the remarkably assured Adam Ashe following his surprise selection.

Ashe is one of 10 Glasgow players in the starting line-up and 15 in the match-day squad. Is that a record? Maybe a rugby scholar could write in and let me know... #bbcsportscot is the Twitter hashtag.

On the other hand, there must have been Scotland fans asking who Adam Ashe was when he was listed in the starting XV this week. The flanker has played just 34 minutes of professional rugby, making two appearances as a substitute for Glasgow over the last two seasons.

A product of both Hillfoots and Stirling County, he was in New Zealand on a rugby scholarship in Christchurch, training with Crusaders and playing for Canterbury University, when he got the call-up due to an injury crisis in the back row.

We have two 20-year-olds making their debuts today but their back stories could not be much different.

It will be interesting to get a look at South Africa's new "golden boy" Handre Pollard. Much is expected of the IRB Junior World Player of the Year, who recently skippered his country to second place in the Junior World Cup in New Zealand. The fly-half also has Super Rugby experience with the Blue Bulls this season.

It's by no means a first-choice Scotland side either, with the touring party split in two this summer. Fringe players Henry Pyrgos and Peter Horne will be looking to impress new coach Cotter, while injuries to others have given Nick de Luca the opportunity to prove he should have been picked in the first place.

The likes of Bryan Habana, Bakkies Botha, Schalk Brits and Morne Steyn may be missing but head coach Heyneke Meyer can still call on experienced campaigners like Fourie du Preez, Schalk Burger and the Du Plessis brothers; Jannie and Bismarck.
