Former Ireland international Reggie Corrigan: "Ireland are just trying to grind out this result here. They are going through the motions and there is nothing of the creativeness we are used to seeing instead they are just trying to bosh it up when they get the chance. Italy on the other hand have come out strongly and will want to put Ireland under pressure at every chance they get."

England scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth: , externalBack home and now with feet up watching the rest of the Six Nations with my boy, Fred, before heading back into camp tomorrow. Still buzzing from last night. Thought all the lads stepped up and to come back from 10-0 down to win and leave a couple of tries out there showed how well we played.

Playing rugby at the Stadio Olimpico looks like trying to fight the rush-hour commuter flow on London Underground.

Ireland are having plenty of the ball but any creativity is being suffocated by Italy defence that is up in their faces straight away.

All very narrow. All very unexciting.

Ian Keatley gets us back going and Italian opposite number Kelly Haimona gets underneath the kick to gather cleanly.

"I believe Ireland are going to up the pace and be more focused. There were some silly errors in the first half which were unacceptable."

Arthur P Winkle:, external Italy are an inept side that seem to drag their opponents down to their own level of mediocrity. Yawn!! #friendlyrivalry

Neal B:, external Englishman hoping for the 'double'. England beat Wales, now come on Italia! And if France can win later the drinks are on me

Josephine Guckian:, external Disappointing first half. Too much stopping. Thought Ireland would have scored at least 1 try in 1st half.

"Will the owner of a Fiat Cinquecento registration number ...."

The stadium announcer at the Stadio Olimpico has been getting through a lot of admin during the half-time break, drowning out Keith Wood and Carlo Del Fava with massive-decibel announcements.

We are finally ready to get back under way.

"There's not much to focus on and analyse because the most exciting thing has been the Ireland maul attack."

It has been an eyesore of a game so far.

    The stats don't lie.

    Clean breaks: Italy 0-0 Ireland

    Defenders beaten: Italy 4-3 Ireland

Metres run with ball: Italy 110-87 Ireland

One for the purists we could say. If we were being kind.

"Italy are securing possession but they're not using it as a devastating weapon. We're winning ball slightly under pressure, it's not as clean and as crisp as it needs to be."

    Keith Wood
Former Ireland hooker on BBC One

"I think Joe Schmidt wants to keep it simple, but he'd like to see a few tries. You know Ireland are going to kick a lot but the accuracy of that kicking hasn't been up to scratch. It's been lacklustre."

Former Ireland international Reggie Corrigan: "I think Ireland will be disappointed with that first half. They have only got a six point lead and I think at half-time they will be having stern words and will expect more from each in the second half."

Ireland swarm around the lineout to prevent Italy's rolling maul from getting a head of steam up.

But Ireland have infringed again and this time, with the clock against them, Italy opt for the easy points.

And Kelly Haimona does make it look easy, stroking over. That is the final action of the half.

Italy have a penalty inside the 22 as Tommy O'Donnell drops to his knees over a breakdown.

Sergio Parisse tells his fly-half to aim his boot for the corner rather than the sticks.

Ambitious from the Italy captain. Or maybe he does not trust Kelly Haimona's place kicking...

Shane McDaid:, external Yes Keatley- earn that No. 10!! Ire v Italy Come ya Green Beasts

Tony Cooper:, external I think Ireland are adequate so far...not spectacular

David Dillon:, external At least Ireland winning their own line-outs. Unlike that fully deserved defeat of 2 years ago. Stealing one now.

  18. Postpublished at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2015

    Phillip Matthews
Former Ireland captain on BBC One

"The maul has given Ireland another three-point opportunity. I don't imagine Ireland have had the lion's share of the territory, but they've been more disciplined."

  19. Penaltypublished at 15:13 Greenwich Mean Time 7 February 2015

Italy second row Joshua Furno pops up on the wrong side of a maul.

Conor Murray tries to take matters into his own hands, but can't haul the second row out of the way by his collar.

The referee has spotted the offside though and up shoots his arms. No advantage so they come back for the penalty and Ian Keatley does not need asking twice. He clips over to stretch the lead to nine points.

BBC Radio 5 live sports extra

Former Ireland international Reggie Corrigan: "There's confusion in that midfield about what each of the players is meant to be doing. There have also been a lot of handling errors and unforced ones. Italy have been playing really well and if they can keep it like this until half time they really will think they can take something from the game.

"Ireland haven't done anything yet to suggest to me they are going to be scoring a lot of tries."
