"Eventually, that tackle count is going to count against you. Tommy O'Donnell shows great pace and the superior fitness of this Ireland team is coming into play. Andrea Masi should have been able to take him."

Leonardo Ghiraldini's repeated infringements don't look so streetwise now.

With their hooker in the bin, Italy's defence suddenly looks threadbare.

Tommy O'Donnell spots a hole, shrugging off Andrea Masi and cantering in under the posts from outside the 22-metre line.

Ireland finally grind a way through to the whitewash.

Nothing complicated to get your head around here. Line-out ball into the giant mitts of Paul O'Connell, an eight-man shove, and Conor Murray scoops up from the wreckage and dots down.

Former Ireland hooker on BBC One

"Ghiraldini is in there but I don't know if that's particularly cynical. I think Castrogiovanni is very lucky, you knew it was offside. It's three-to-one in terms of tackling. All the momentum has moved to Ireland."

Conor Murray partially charges down Andrea Masi's clearing kick on the Italy 22-metre line and Ireland work the ball left.

Tommy Bowe, faced with a wall of blue, attempts to grubber forward for himself. Good idea, but his kick cannons off Italian socks and into touch.
