A real concern for the All Blacks with Kieran Read down. He's had a reasonably quiet year by his standards. I was anticipating he might explode in this final. Not sure if we'll see it now.

Laser-beam concentration as Dan Carter leaves the stadium and crowd behind to focus on a small patch of leather.

He connects sweet as a nut off the tee and the ball splits the sticks perfectly.

Ma'a Nonu is a whirling dervish. Nehe Milner-Skudder takes the offload and steps inside. Scragged by his bootlaces.

The Aussies are being run ragged. There must be a hole. The All Blacks up to within 10.

The ball spins the other way, but Julian Savea is stopped by a tag-team of Israel Folau and Matt Giteau.

Aussie hands on the floor though and Dan Carter is going to kick for the posts and the first points of this World Cup final.

A mismatch in midfield. Ma'a Nonu swerves outside prop Sekope Kepu and thunders deep into Aussie territory.

Panic stations for the green and gold. The All Blacks up to within five.

But Sam Whitelock gets in the way of Aaron Smith's fizzing pass and although it goes backwards, Australia have time to reorganise and force the black tide back.

Sam Whitelock takes to the sky and claims the kick-off for the All Blacks.

The All Blacks launch into a rendition of the haka with more hiss and fizz than a vat of cola loaded with aspirins.

The Australians stand impassive and unimpressed.

Stick a fork in. We're ready.

Out come the two teams to a cavalcade of flame and noise.

Overhead the Red Arrows buzz Twickenham Stadium spewing red, white and blue smoke in their wake.

Anthem time and New Zealand get first stretch of the vocal cords.

I think Australia will target Dan Carter, they'll try and unruffle him and it could be the unraveling of the All Blacks."

There is the day's main VIP.

The William Webb Ellis trophy (Bill to many an Aussie) is plucked from a padded case and shown off to the crowd by former Australia captain and World Cup winner John Eales before being plonked on a pitchside plinth.

    Teams are in the tunnel.

I can't wait for the game but I'm very very nervous. Honestly, there have been governments changed in elections which happen shortly after All Black defeats.

The breakdown is going to be a crucial area but not necessarily as crucial as when other sides play Australia. When you have such expertise with the ball in hand those opportunities don't come along quite so often because the All Blacks will stay on their feet and it's much more difficult for Hooper and Pocock to get on the ball.

Referee Nigel Owens has shared a picture of his matchday boots, which is nice of him.

They're colourful togs - a hint of orange around the rim (very apt on Halloween), New Zealand v Australia stamped on the left shoe, a Welsh flag on the right.

When even the referees are wearing personalised boots though...
