World Cup fever has taken over New Zealand as the All Blacks aim to become the first nation to retain the Webb Ellis Cup.

The Weekend Herald newspaper has produced a 15-page special edition ahead of the match, picking out a rallying call from skipper Richie McCaw as their headline.

Michael Cheika seems to have an intense dislike of the media, the game's administrators and referees. When you are in the team and your coach is like that then you get the feeling he is protecting his boys. They respond to him."

Bruising physicality, military precision set-piece drill, grandmaster-level tactics - check, check and check.

So far, so predictable in the list of things to look forward to in World Cup final warm-up week.

    But espionage and stolen secrets?

Australia coach Michael Cheika and assistant Mario Ledesma were snapped during their captain's run at Twickenham yesterday holding notes suggesting they would try and "rattle" All Black number eight Kieran Read off kick-off and expose wingers Nehe Milner-Skudder and Julian Savea under the high ball.

A plastic document wallet is less than a pound. Double-bluffing your opponents before the big game? Priceless.

"The last three World Cup finals may have brought a cumulative total of just four tries, but there are no excuses this afternoon - two teams who like to attack (they have scored more tries per match in this tournament than anyone else), and perfect conditions: bright skies overhead, no rain for hundreds of miles, warm enough for short sleeves and long cold drinks."

McCaw and Carter. Not the title of an 1970s American TV show about two down-on-their-luck detectives who race around town in their beat-up Pontiac. But the headline on the front page of Christchurch-based newspaper The Weekend Press celebrating "two of Canterbury's greatest sons" - All Blacks skipper Richie McCaw and fly-half Dan Carter.

The pair will become "the greatest names in Canterbury sport" if they lead the All Blacks to victory today, says the paper.

David Pocock has been dubbed the 'thieving jackal' of the Australian team - and here's why. The Wallabies back-rower has nicked more turnovers than any other man at the World Cup.

    New Zealand v Australia

Pocock's turnovers make up A THIRD of Australia's team total of 42 at this World Cup. Interestingly, that means the Wallabies are only fifth in the most turnovers won by a team - behind South Africa (54), Wales (48), New Zealand (45) and Argentina (44).

John McEnerney:  Dan Carter's boot to be the difference. Australia can match the intensity the All Blacks bring, an on-form Dan Carter will be a tad too much for Australia! New Zealand by two kicks!

No doubt about what the blueprint will be for the Wallabies today.

They paired Michael Hooper and David Pocock in the back row together for the first time against the All Blacks in the Rugby Championship in August.

Fourteen turnovers followed in the first half alone of a 27-19 win.

Michael Chieka dismantled his back-row wrecking crew for the return in Auckland a week later and the Wallabies were dispatched 41-13.

But those seeds had already been sown.
