Meanwhile, Worcester are back in the top flight after just one season after they beat Bristol in the Championship play-off final back in May.

You would expect it to be a season of consolidation for Dean Ryan's side as they look to establish themselves in the Premiership.

“Warriors have brought in some experienced players with the likes of Phil Dowson and Donncha O'Callaghan. And, if they gel with last season’s promotion-winning youngsters, the future could be bright," says BBC Hereford & Worcester’s Warriors reporter Dave Bradley.

“After struggling for a reliable kicker the last time they were in the top flight, Worcester hope the arrival of Tom Heathcote from Edinburgh will solve that problem."

Like any side with a competitive squad, Sale Sharks have targeted a top-six place for European Champions Cup rugby next season - they finished seventh last term.

The only top flight team in the North West will again rest heavily on the talents of fly-half Danny Cipriani, who will be hoping his club form can put him ahead of George Ford and Owen Farrell for the England number 10 spot.

"I've not given up on England," he told BBC Radio Manchester. "I think the decisions were all very close and difficult and it was devastating to see the boys go out.

"I need to play well at the club, start the season well and get Sale on a run - it all starts with your club form and if you don't have that, nothing happens with it."

Away from league matters, the eyes of the world will be focused on the Rugby World Cup quarter-finals this weekend.

With the the Rugby Football Union's World Cup review on England currently ongoing, a number of the men in charge at club level have been giving their views on what should happen.

You can hear the thoughts of Northampton Saints head coach Jim Mallinder, Exeter boss Rob Baxter, Sale director of rugby Steve Diamond and Harlequins' Conor O'Shea by simply clicking play.

Their move from London to Coventry saw Wasps regularly pull in crowds of over 20,000 last season, but can that last? A sixth-placed league finish and a European Champions Cup quarter-final place is a good way to keep them coming back.

“Wasps have now switched most of this season’s home games to Saturday afternoons, to the annoyance of Coventry Rugby Club," says BBC Coventry and Warwickshire’s Wasps reporter Clive Eakin.

“On the field, Wasps are sticking to the mantra repeated often that a top six place is the target but, having narrowly missed out on the play-offs last season, fans may be hoping for more this time.

“A number of new faces have been added to Dai Young’s squad - notably Australia’s most capped forward George Smith along with fly-half Jimmy Gopperth, All Black international backs Frank Halai and Charles Piutau, and Samoan prop James Johnston.”

After becoming accustomed to life in the higher echelons of the league, Harlequins found it tough going last season, ending up finishing eighth.

"We need to have a fully-fit squad out on the pitch," director of rugby Conor O'Shea told BBC Sport. "We were two points off the top four and top of our Champions Cup pool in the middle of January and then our season unravelled over the couple of months after that through injury and unavailability - then we lacked confidence.

"The young players who had a tough second half of last season will have learned it is not easy in life. We will be better for what we went through last year."
