Saracens surrendered the lead at the top of the Premiership to Exeter after slipping to defeat at Leicester.

Tigers led 6-3 at the break as two Freddie Burns penalties cancelled out one from Alex Goode.

But Leicester took advantage of Sarries having fly-half Nils Mordt in the sin-bin to score tries through Burns and Vereniki Goneva.

Goode's converted try and a second penalty cut the lead but Burns dropped a goal to settle it.

Saracens missed out on a losing bonus point and now sit two points behind leaders Exeter Chiefs while victory moves Leicester up to fourth in the table.

London Irish boosted their hopes of Premiership survival with victory over Gloucester in the St Patrick's Day game at the Madejski Stadium.

Irish remain bottom of the Premiership but their first win since early February puts the Exiles five points behind of Newcastle.

Tries from Halani Aulika and Blair Cowan and 13 points from the boot of Greig Tonks sealed victory.

Gloucester failed to make up ground on the top six following their second consecutive defeat.

Wasps ran in five tries at the Ricoh Arena as they thrashed Sale to boost their Premiership play-off hopes.

The hosts dominated the first half and tries from Charles Piutau, Rob Miller and Ashley Johnson secured a 25-0 lead.

Sharks rallied through scores from David Seymour and Neil Briggs, but Jimmy Gopperth added the try bonus point for the hosts.

Christian Wade danced through for their fifth before Sale centre Johnny Leota was sent off in a scuffle late on.

There have been big results at both ends of the Premiership table today and no more so at Sandy Park, where Exeter beat Northampton to go top.

The Chiefs scored 17 unanswered second-half points as they fought back to maintain their Premiership challenge.

Saints arrived at Sandy Park on the back of five wins in six games and led 12-3 at the break thanks to tries from Lee Dickson and Ken Pisi.

But Olly Woodburn scored in the corner to cut Northampton's lead and Gareth Steenson kicked four penalties to seal victory for Exeter.

It's a deserved win for Leicester in front of their own fans, having largely dominated possession and territory throughout the match.

Sarries showed little in attack themselves but looked bright when Richard Wigglesworth came on at scrum-half, although he and Alex Goode could not inspire a comeback.

It wasn't a classic by any stretch of the imagination but the Tigers move up to fourth in the table, leapfrogging Northampton, 

Meanwhile, Sarries miss out on the chance to return to the top of the table and are two points behind Exeter.

Saracens have a late chance to get a losing bonus point with a penalty attempt from Goode.

However he skews it wide, to large cheers from the home crowd.

Only the second kick he has missed this season in the Premiership.

After a bit of a stoppage in play so referee JP Doyle can consult with the TMO, Saracens winger Mike Ellery is sent to the sin-bin.

Doyle was originally set to give Sarries a penalty for a neck roll by Marcos Ayerza on Kelly Brown but he's more interested in a late challenge by Ellery on Lachlan McCaffrey.

He decides it's a shoulder charge so Sarries receive their second yellow card of the afternoon.

They were only shown three all season before today.

Irish get a line-out and pick and drive to run the clock down and that's it! A priceless win for London Irish, they keep their survival hopes alive and climb back to within five points of Newcastle.

Leicester win the ball from a Saracens scrum and go through the phases.

Freddie Burns drops back into space and is found by Sam Harrison, and the fly-half slots a drop-goal straight through the posts.

With four minutes remaining, surely that is enough to give the Tigers victory?

Lachlan McCaffrey makes a great half-break in his own half and finds Telusa Veainu, who juggles and then kicks forward.

That's good play from the winger to relieve pressure on the Tigers.

Topsy Ojo penalised for being on the wrong side of a ruck so Gloucester can get good field position. Into the 22 they go. Gloucester set up the maul but it comes loose and they knock on. Irish hoof it it away and we end up back into the Gloucester 22. 

The visitors are caught offside and Irish get a chance to move further ahead. Greig Tonks takes every second available and slots the penalty.

Alex Goode makes the kick, and it wasn't an easy one, being about 35 metres out and 15 metres in from the right-hand touchline.

Sarries back to within a score and the game is back on...

Saracens have had to defend for the majority of this match but this time they get a penalty as referee JP Doyle spots some Leicester hands in the ruck.

Another infringement from a line-out gives Sarries another penalty and the visitors opt to go for goal in an attempt to reduce the arrears.

Another good kick from Freddie Burns puts the pressure back on the Saracens line-out on the edge of the visitors' 22.

With their scrum advantage withdrawn, Irish kick for the corner and set up the maul, Gloucester are penalised again four yards out. Another line-out and another penalty and another card. Had to be.
