Racing coach Ronan O'Gara speaking to BT Sport: "The better team won, its hard to accept and extremely disappointing, but is about being champions and we were not good enough today. They deserved their victory, when the game comes to a crunch we weren't up to it.

"I don't think we went missing, it was like a boxing match at times, a game of chess. Owen Farrell did not miss.

Saracens' captain Brad Barritt speaking to BT Sport: "There was a belief coming into this game, that this was our year. We came up short against Toulon two years ago and that galvanized us. We speak metaphorically about pounding the rock and today that rock broke.

"This team stood up tonight and I could not be more proud of to a be part of squad."

Saracens' Owen Farrell speaking to BT Sport: "You could see by how many mistakes there were how difficult the conditions were. There was good intent but it was not a day for running rugby. They got a good bit of momentum heading into the final 20 minutes.

"But some of our guys who like the turnovers and the big hits managed to turn the tide. Everyone here is working hard to get better. Everyone makes the most of the day in front of them."

Mark McCall, Saracens director of rugby. speaking to BT Sport: "We played a really clever game, it was a really mature performance and I am delighted for the players and the backroom staff and for Nigel Wray who has put his heart and soul into the club over the last 20 years and finally gets his reward.

"We have good age profile in this group, the best is yet to come. Tonight was important after two years ago when we lost to Toulon. We did not just muscle up but we were tactically good and smart. Our half-backs were unbelievable, we really pressured them in midfield.

"We have to stay humble and hungry enough and there is more to come from the team.

"We will let the players celebrate, they have invested a lot into the Premiership season and we have the challenge there and have to invest a bit more."

Paul Gustard - the man who drilled the Saracens defence before heading off to take up the same role with England in December - is in Lyon to see his hard work at club level bear fruit.

It is strange to see him slapping high fives wearing a red cardigan rather than a red tracksuit top.

Saracens flanker Michael Rhodes speaking to BT Sport: "it is a dream come true. It is a weird mix of exhilaration and a slight concussion. This club is absolutely amazing. it as a family, together with some real talented rugby players, it is difficult to put your finger on. The guys have been working really hard for this for a number of season and I think we are going to go big with the celebrations tonight."

Saracens are the first team to win the Champions Cup having won all of their matches in the competition.

Brad Barritt hoists the European Champions trophy skywards.

Dramatic strings blare out of the Grand Stade de Lyon tannoy, gold and blue tickertape spits skywards and a long, long journey from their old home at Bramley Road to the summit of Europe is over for Saracens.

Racing 92 troop up to collect their trinkets.

Saracens are still absorbed in their own celebrations. Jacques Burger is down there with his former team-mates.

Saracens players envelope each other in bear hugs. The replacements, the backroom staff, friends and family are right in amongst it.

They talk the talk about being a family, a band of brothers at that club.

That performance and the celebrations that follow show that it is justified.

Maro Itoje speaking to BT Sport: "We have had big disappointments but each time we have come back stronger and we are happy to finally done it. We knew this was a game we could win, we had the form coming into the game, we knew if we do what we do, dominate the gameline, then we could win and thank god we did.

"We will enjoy tonight and build on from there."
