    Bath 16-3 Sale

    Well this is quite incredible.

Referee Tom Foley gets an accidental shoulder from Sale lock Andrei Ostrikov and then collapses from a head knock.

It looked for a second as if he was out cold!

He gets up on his feet though and now Sharks have a scrum.

  2. Postpublished at 59 mins

    Bath 16-3 Sale

George Ford, who went past 800 Premiership points with that penalty, shows his class out of hand.

A deep kick comes to him but he turns, composes himself and then kicks deep into Sharks territory to get his team back up the pitch.

Kicks like that are why he is Eddie Jones' fly-half in a white shirt.

  3. Penalty (Ford)published at 57 mins

    Bath 16-3 Sale

This is a quite astonishing decision and Sale boss Steve Diamond is not a happy man.

We spend three or four minutes with the Television Match Official to decide Halani Aulika produced a no arms tackle, which was debatable in itself - and an incident which happened quite a few phases back.

George Ford kicks between the sticks for another three points and can we get on with some rugby now?

George Ford's kick does not make it to touch and Sale look to run it back - again though, they get into the 22 and knock the ball on.

Bath have the put into the scrum but first a check with the TMO for a couple of incidents.

I reckon we're past 10 minutes of TMO time so far this evening...

Nick Hughes: Odogwu is looking like a real find for Sale Sharks who haven't got going yet, very slow & scrappy compared to last year

  6. Replacementpublished at 54 mins

    Bath 13-3 Sale

Charlie Ewels on for Bath and Andrei Ostrikov on for Sale.

What can these fresh legs do to change the game?

  7. Postpublished at 53 mins

    Bath 13-3 Sale

The changes appear to have added some life to Sale who look more dangerous with ball in hand and are looking for spaces out wide.

However, as the Sharks get into the 22, Matt Garvey jackals over the ball and wins the turnover penalty.

Sale disagree with the decision and the referee marches them back another 10 metres.

  8. Missed penalty (Addison)published at 51 mins

    Bath 13-3 Sale

That is not a miss you would expect a regular kicker to miss.

Sale winger Will Addison misses his first strike in eight kicks, hooking it wide and the gap remains at 10 points.

  9. Postpublished at 50 mins

    Bath 13-3 Sale

First Bath, then Sale finally look to move the ball around and move make in roads in the opposition defence.

Eventually it is the visitors who win the exchange as they earn a penalty.

  10. Penalty (Ford)published at 47 mins

    Bath 13-3 Sale

Eventually Bath do win a penalty from the scrum and George Ford does the honours of another three points.

Sale respond by putting on two new props in Halani Aulika and Ross Harrison. Full-back Mike Haley also on for his first appearance of the season.

    Bath 10-3 Sale

We are on our ninth maybe 10th reset scrum now.

This is becoming quite dire. Eventually Bath win a free-kick from the scrum and they decide to... take a scrum.

It could be a long second half.

Great positive play from Homer and Joseph there. Really gifted footwork from both of them.

Homer with feet like a tap-dancing centipede. He was looking really dangerous there.

    Bath 10-3 Sale

Bath looking so, so dangerous when they counter from deep again.

First Tom Homer puts on a burst of pace, hands it onto Jonathan Joseph who does some unreal, magical, wonderful feet to burst away and just as he throws the ball out the tackle trying to keep the ball alive, it is knocked out.

Another time the hosts nearly burst into life.

Sale's AJ MacGinty gets us going in the second-half at the Recreation Ground.

A reminder that Sale in their luminous yellow changed kit and Bath in the traditional Blue, Black and White hoops.

Bath have just got to keep doing what they're doing. It's going to be a tough game. They're up against a seriously abrasive pack of forwards, there are some real tough characters in there.

The backs have got to link up a bit more, there have been a couple of missed passes, a couple of missed opportunities.

If they keep doing what they're doing I can only see us [Bath] going in the right direction.

Nick's been impressed Sale winger Paolo Odogwu while Luke is not too happy with the officiating...

    Bath 10-3 Sale

    Matt BanahanImage source, Getty Images

Matt Banahan's try separates the two sides at half-time in a game which has threatened to burst into life, but yet to really get going.

Sale have enjoyed lots of the ball but have not done much with it, while Bath have looked like finding gaps will ball in hand.

Set up nicely for another 40 minutes this one.

    Bath 10-3 Sale

He has shown his fancy footwork, but this is classy defensive work by Sale winger Paolo Odogwu who rips the ball from Semesa Rokoduguni.

Sale clear their lines and have a minute to hold out until half-time.
