Worcester clung on for a first win of the season as they edged out Newcastle 11-9 at Sixways.

Tom Heathcote put Worcester centre Wynard Olivier over for the game's only try.

Warriors held on despite some sustained Newcastle pressure late on and two penalties from Mike Delany.

Wasps are back at the Premiership summit after a comprehensive win against Harlequins.

Seven tries from seven different scorers saw them beat Quins 47-18 at the Ricoh Arena.

Harlequins scored two of their own through Jamie Roberts and James Chisholm, but eight points was as close as John Kingston's men got to pulling off a shock away win.

We stuck at it for 80 minutes today. Last two games, we haven't quite been there and it's cost us. I thought that might happen again today when we were camped on our line defending, but we stood firm.

Worcester drive... they drive with all they have towards their first win of the season.

The seconds tick by and with a kick into touch from Jonny Arr, the win is theirs!

  7. Worcester 11-9 Newcastlepublished at 16:50 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

Worcester's Alafoti Fa'Osiliva loses the ball in the middle of the park and it is scrum time.

And what do Worcester do? They manage to win another penalty at the scrum. Is the game saved as the ball is cleared down field with Worcester taking a line-out on the 22.

    Worcester 11-9 Newcastle

With less than four minutes remaining, Joel Hodgson lands his first points and Newcastle are within two points now.

Grand stand finish on the cards.

  9. Worcester 11-6 Newcastlepublished at 16:44 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

I'll say it again, Worcester have put in a huge defensive display.

Newcastle have spent more than 18 minutes of the 73 in this game so far in the Warriors' 22. What do they have to show for it? Nothing really, as they are yet to cross for a try.

Again the hosts force a penalty and clear.

There is a real tinge of controversy around this one now as a pass is called forward as Will Welch looked on his way to crossing for Newcastle's first try.

After replays it looked marginal at best. Surely, let that go and watch it back with the television match official.

Still, there should have been no question about that as the ball was moved brilliantly from left to right by Falcons.

Perry Humphreys crucially claims possession at the break down deep in Worcester's defence.

Newcastle, as they did for so much of the first-half, were probing for a weakness in Warriors' defence.

What they found was one determined Humphreys instead with a little over 11 minutes remaining.

  12. Penalty (Delany)published at 16:31 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Worcester 11-6 Newcastle

Newcastle's Mike Delany lands his second penalty of the day and it is a five-point contest again.

With 18 minutes remaining, it is wide open.

Worcester nerves will be tested as they try to hang on for their first win of the season.

  13. Wocester 11-3 Newcastlepublished at 16:29 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

An all new front row now in play for Newcastle as Ben Sowrey and Alex Rogers join the action.

Lock Will Witty also comes on for Falcons.

Plenty of refreshed bodies. Can the Falcons come up with a big finish?

  14. Worcester 11-3 Newcastlepublished at 16:26 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

Worcester's dominance at the scrum is really telling now. They have put in an immense effort all day. Even with David Wilson back in Newcastle's pack, they are crunched.

The Warriors' latest effort five metres into Falcons' half results in another penalty.

Ryan Lamb tees up, but misses.

  15. Penalty (Lamb)published at 16:21 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Worcester 11-3 Newcastle

Ryan Lamb makes an immediate impact after replacing Tom Heathcote for Worcester.

A darting run from the fly-half off the back of a line-out piles the pressure on Newcastle and a penalty is eventually given.

From 15 metres out and just left of the posts, Lamb does not miss and he extends Worcester's lead.

    Wasps 47-18 Harlequins

And that's your lot for the afternoon in Coventry.

Seven tries for Wasps from seven different scorers. They go back to the top of the table in emphatic fashion.

Harlequins will come away from that feeling a bit miffed as they showed some real class at times.

Last minute at the Ricoh Arena and Quins thought they were in for a third try.

Luke Wallace sees the door firmly slammed on him though as Thomas Young arrives to barge him out of touch with the covering tackle just five metres short.

  18. Worcester 8-3 Newcastlepublished at 16:15 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

And one replacement appearance not to be missed as Sixways sees David Wilson come on for Newcastle.

It's the prop's first appearance for the Falcons since leaving Kingston Park for Bath seven years ago. It goes down as a debut of sorts I guess.

Try (Bassett, con Gopperth)published at 16:13 British Summer Time 2 October 2016

    Wasps 47-18 Harlequins

Five minutes still to play, but Wasps have time to ruin my already beautifully-crafted match report with a seventh try of the afternoon.

Josh Bassett gets on the end of Jimmy Gopperth's burst to score his second try in as many games.

Gopperth adds a sixth conversion of the game and the hosts are going back to the top in style.

BIG hit!Worcester's  Perry Humphreys locks on Sinoti Sinoti and he crashes into the winger as he tacks a kick.

But it is adjudged to be an illegal attempt and the crowd let the referee know how they feel.

    Newcastle with the penalty.
