There were four Premiership games on Saturday, but what were the headlines?

Exeter needed a late Damian Welch try to deny Gloucester victory in the south west derby at Sandy Park.

Four tries, including one for Graham Kitchener against his former club, saw Leicester claim a bonus point win over Worcester Warriors.

A strong second-half performance from Harlequins secured victory against Northampton and saw them leapfrog Saints in the table.

Newcastle Falcons survived a second-half fightback from Bristol to earn their third win of the season.

    HT: Saracens 13-8 Wasps

    Quote Message

It was a brilliant half of rugby. With all the territory and possession we had, Wasps really showed their quality. That try before half-time was all about patient build-up.

    Saracens 13-8 Wasps

Just to confirm, we are now at the midway point of this humdinger.

Saracens have certainly been on top, and the league leaders will be privately pleased to be within a score of the champions.

One thing I did neglect to mention, just before the Sarries try Wasps lost lock Kearnan Myall to injury - blood was pouring from his head.

We hope it's not too bad.

It's the last play of the half and Wasps have just got back on level terms - but Sarries maintained their drive and concentration.

This time scrum-half Richard Wigglesworth is the architect, showing his eye for a pass by feeding winger Mike Ellery, who goes over in the corner.

The conversion is missed, but the hosts lead at the break.

The records will read that winger Josh Bassett scored the try, and he did, but huge credit must go to Wasps playmaker Danny Cipriani.

Clever, magic, delightful - however you want to describe it, Cipriani showed some nifty footwork to tear apart the Sarries defence and play in Bassett.

Gopperth is off target with the conversion, but all of a sudden Wasps are level.

  6. Penalty (Lozowski)published at 33 mins

    Saracens 8-3 Wasps

Sarries have their five point buffer back.

The penalty comes about at the scrum, with England international Billy Vunipola working his magic.

Alex Lozowski does the business with his kick, finding the middle of the posts.

  7. Penalty (Gopperth)published at 29 mins

    Saracens 5-3 Wasps

Wasps are on the board, and it's their stand-in skipper Jimmy Gopperth who kicks over with ease after the visitors win a penalty.

The cogs are starting to turn for the leaders, and Sarries captain Brad Barritt has been warned about his team's indiscipline by the referee.

    Watch your step!

    Saracens 5-0 Wasps

As relentless as Saracens have been, Wasps have begun to venture forward once or twice.

On their latest foray into the Sarries 22, Argentina international Juan Figallo gets the better of his Wasps equivalent Simon McIntyre, and wins a penalty to relieve the pressure.

The champions won't be easy to break down, that's for sure.

You know when both teams are so good and the tempo is so high, that the sides cancel each other out?

Well, that's pretty much what's happening right now.

Both Saracens and Wasps are leaving no room to manoeuvre, and no one is being allowed any freedom with ball in hand.

His side may be ahead at this early stage, but Saracens director of rugby Mark McCall has cut a frustrated figure at times in the stand.

It's not clear what has irked him, but it just shows how high the champions set the bar.

On the field meanwhile, Wasps appear to have the better of the scrum thus far, but are yet to really get up the pitch.

    Saracens 5-0 Wasps

Just as Wasps appear to be hitting their stride in terms of passing, Sarries number eight Billy Vunipola rips the ball from his opposite number Nathan Hughes and the home side then attack.

It's already end to end, but pressure from each side is leading to errors.

    Saracens 5-0 Wasps

The hosts haven't given Wasps any time to settle in possession, but are over keen and give away a penalty.

However the resulting lineout from Dai Young's side isn't straight and they gift Sarries a scrum.

Wasps will need to be more ruthless.

    Saracens 5-0 Wasps

From a clever line-out taken straight from the training field, Mako Vunipola, aided by George Kruis, bundles himself and the ball over the try line.

It was a strong Sarries driving maul, and the champions have the early edge.

Alex Lozowski misses his first conversion attempt of the afternoon against his old club - it was a tricky one out wide in fairness.

We're underway at a packed out Allianz Arena - the roar as the players emerged was quite something.

Bath gatecrashed the top two with victory on Friday night, but this is the one we've been waiting for.

Let's hope the game lives up to its billing.

Good afternoon - you join us 10 minutes before kick off at the Allianz Arena, for what must be the biggest game of the Premiership campaign so far.

Granted, the season is only six weeks old, but this is the reigning champions against a Wasps side which has won all of their matches so far and sit top of the table.

As far as I'm concerned, games in October don't get any better than this.
