The hosts are over the line but the ball is held up. No try.

But that's the closest either side have come to a score.

Gloucester make an enforced blood replacement, with Tom Savage going off after some on-pitch treatment to be replaced by Jeremy Thrush.

Gloucester are in possession now, in the Quins half. But the hosts are defending resolutely. No way through for the visitors as yet.

Quins enjoy possession in an attacking position for the first time in the game but the Gloucester defence holds firm.

Then Gloucester win a penalty as Quins are penalised for collapsing at the scrum.

... But Gloucester quickly turn the ball over and we are still yet to set a fully-formed Quins attack.

That good Gloucester spell has eased a little, and now Harlequins kick deep into the visitors' half to force a line-out just inside the 22.

That pleases the home crowd!

Cheers from the Quins fans as they win the ball back after pressure from Gloucester from that penalty, driving close to the try line.

No points gained from that decent start for the visitors.

From the line-out, Gloucester spread the ball wide and then misplace a crossfield kick, but rather than losing possession, they're instead going back for a penalty.

Gloucester drive forward powerfully with a rolling maul and it serves them well - they force a line-out, deep into Quins' 22.

Harlequins steal the ball down their right and James Chisholm looks to chip forward and start a quick break but he just scuffs his kicks a tad, and it goes into touch.

The noise is immense around Twickenham. I'm assured that more than 75,000 tickets were sold.

On the pitch, Gloucester have a scrum near the halfway line.

The referee, in case you were wondering, is JP Doyle.

Gloucester break quickly down their left with a fine move in just the second minute.

But there was a slight knock-on a few metres from the line. Marland Yarde did well to make up the crucial yards to get back and intervene just in time.

After pre-match fireworks jet out from around the edges of the Twickenham roof, Gloucester get this game under way.

The widely-recognisable theme music from the James Bond movie franchise blasts out around a packed Twickenham.

The match ball arrives from the skies, dropping in via parachute.

Gloucester run out first, followed by Harlequins, at twilight, with red flames flashing up along the touchline.

Speaking about playing at Twickenham, Harlequins head coach Mark Mapletoft told BBC Radio London:

"It's an unusual club event, in terms of the number of people you get. It creates an extra buzz for the players.

"We've played Saracens at Wembley a few times but this is different as there is a festive atmosphere. It is a great showcase for the club."

The most welcome news for Gloucester fans is that Scotland skipper Greig Laidlaw returns to captain the Cherry and Whites at scrum-half.

Centre Billy Twelvetrees, prop Paddy McAllister, lock Mariano Galarza and flanker Ross Moriarty are also back.

The less welcome news for the visitors is their late change, enforced because Ben Morgan is unwell. Gareth Evans is at number eight instead.
