A bitterly disappointing evening for Glasgow Warriors who just found the Munster defence impenetrable. The Irish side were ferocious in the tackle and at the breakdown and the Warriors could not find a way through to the try-line.

All is not lost though. A win away to Leicester in their final match could be enough to take them through the knockout stage for the first time in their history. It promises to be another war next Saturday at Welford Road.

“The players are very disappointed. They put huge effort into that game. Obviously we were ahead for most of it. It was a very competitive game but we just weren’t good enough to get that win. 

"We didn’t play at our best in the first half but we were up against a very good side and it was quite close. The second half we upped our game. I thought we put much more pace into our attack, maybe didn’t get the rewards, three points on a couple of occasions. 

"In the end they showed their ability, their togetherness in attack, it just put us under pressure and they got the points. They deserved their win. They’re a very good side."

“Could Glasgow have given any more physically or mentally? No. Absolutely not. They emptied everything, they threw everything at it.

They had their chances to win, a couple of field positions in the second half to maybe pop over a drop goal but they didn’t do it. They ran into the best defence in Europe. That’s three tries conceded in five games for Munster – that’s extraordinary. At this level of rugby, in this group, that defence could win them the Champions Cup. It’s unbelievable defence.”

A really tough one for Glasgow to swallow but Munster must take credit for getting the job done.

It was obvious from an early stage that tries would be at a premium, and Francis Saili's touchdown with eight minutes remaining proved the difference.

The margins are so fine at this level and Glasgow will look at little errors that allowed Munster off the hook at key moments, while the Irish side found points when they needed them most.

Munster are through to the quarter-finals. Glasgow will have to go to Leicester and win next weekend to keep their hopes alive.

Glasgow look to go wide but Lee Jones is crowded out, bundled into touch and with that Glasgow's hopes look to be gone.

Tim Swinson has delivered a towering performance and he just blasted through single-handed there.

The big lock collects the ball wide on the left, sells a dummy and goes galloping up the touchline to take his team 50m upfield.

Conor Murray's box kick is charged down and Glasgow are in the red zone.

The obvious option would be to take on a drop goal but Glasgow delay and are forced back outside the 22 before the ball is lost forward and the chance is gone.

With 14 men will they get another shot to snatch this?

From the 5m lineout Munster go wide and Simon Zebo combines with Keith Earls to send substitute Francis Saili scampering over in the corner.

Tyler Bleyendaal misses the conversion which could prove crucial.

Munster pummel the Glasgow line and when the ball is whipped wide Andrew Conway looks destined for the corner. Stuart Hogg's tackle is high and Lee Jones does brilliantly to hold up Conway over the line.

The referee comes back for the penalty to Munster and sends Hogg to the sin bin. Glasgow will finish this match with 14 men.

Josh Strauss has put in a big performance but his race is run. He departs to be replaced by Chris Fusaro.

Tim Swinson has been fantastic for Glasgow today. Huge intensity about the second-row. Everything he said he would be when I interviewed him last week. The game is still on a knife-edge, though. 

I sense a drop goal coming.

Conor Murray leaves the pitch to be assessed after the head knock. Duncan Williams is on.

Play is halted as Conor Murray is down after he puts in a heavy tackle on Tim Swinson. The Ireland scrum-half is caught be Swinson's elbow flush in the face but thankfully looks like he is fit to continue.

Munster are pinged for offside and Finn Russell is able to kick Glasgow back in front.

Can they hold onto the lead a little longer this time?

Munster make three changes in as many minutes, bringing on lock Billy Holland, prop James Cronin and the dangerous Francis Saili at outside centre.
