Glasgow have had 77% possession and 93% territory and finally they have something to show for it with that Finn Russell penalty.

Munster's defence is proving as dogged and well-organised as predicted. They're getting very little ball, though. They're having to soak up a lot of pressure.

Glasgow might not have the points return but they've got to be tiring out the Munster forwards.

  2. PENALTY: Glasgow 3-0 Munsterpublished at 14 mins

    Finn Russell

The scrum battle will be key tonight and Glasgow strike the first blow in that area by forcing Munster to collapse the set-piece.

Finn Russell is left with the simple task of kicking Glasgow into the lead.

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

Huge vocal support here at Scotstoun from both sets of fans. Supporters getting into the spirit and the Munster fans have travelled in numbers. Fast and furious - but no score......yet!

  4. Hogg on the chargepublished at 10 mins

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

Chaotic scenes follow a scrum on the Glasgow 10-metre line. The ball is lost several times by both sides before Glasgow spring a counter from deep.

Finn Russell spins a gorgeous long miss-pass out to Stuart Hogg. The Scotland full-back, unusually donning a scrum-cap, roars into the line but elects to chip into space and Simon Zebo can only run the ball into touch.

  5. Munster spoilerspublished at 7 mins

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

We mentioned before the match Munster's effectiveness at the breakdown. Despite being on the back-foot in these opening exchanges the Irish side have managed already to slow down Glasgow's ball.

CJ Stander is making a menace of himself in the tackle area and forces Glasgow into a conceding a penalty at the breakdown.

  6. Finn can't find the finishpublished at 5 mins

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

Number eight Josh Strauss makes a barnstorming break off the base of the scrum and takes Glasgow to the edge of the Munster 22. Finn Russell sees space in behind, chips ahead and almost regathers, with the ball just slipping out of his grasp.

A little glimpse of the threat the maverick Scotland fly-half poses.

  7. All Scottish line-up for Glasgowpublished at 4 mins

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

Worth pointing out that the entire Glasgow starting team - one right through to 15 - are Scotland internationals.

I'm sure Scotland head coach Vern Cotter is pleased to see that with the Six Nations just three weeks away.

  8. Postpublished at 3 mins

    Glasgow 0-0 Munster

Glasgow start well with good carries from Alex Dunbar and Jonny Gray.

Finn Russell puts a clever little grubber kick in behind the Munster defence. A line-out for the Irish side 5m from their own line.

Munster claim the ball from the set-piece and draw a penalty to ease the pressure.

    Glasgow Warriors v Munster (1730)

“We’ve worked very hard over the last few years and this is the closest we’ve came (to making the knockout stage).

"We have a big opportunity tonight. It’s probably the biggest game in Europe this weekend and the atmosphere will be fantastic so it’s just a great game to be involved with.

"I’d be so proud if the players can play their best tonight and deliver a win but it’s going to be so tough.”

“These Scotstoun nights have been pretty special.

"The last time we saw something like this was two years ago when Glasgow played Munster in the Pro12 semi-final.

"I said that night and I maintain that I have never seen a club game played at such intensity and brutality.

"I think we’ll be in for much more of the same this evening and there will be a bit of stardust in the air as well.”

  15. Edinburgh march on in Europepublished at 17:13 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2017

    Harlequins 18-23 Edinburgh

Edinburgh are all-but guaranteed a place in the Challenge Cup quarter-finals after beating Harlequins 23-18 at The Stoop earlier this afternoon.

Fraser McKenzie and Allan Dell scored the visitors’ tries, with Duncan Weir kicking 13 points.

In securing four points of their own Edinburgh top Pool Five by a point, with only part-time Romanian outfit Timisoara Saracens blocking their path to the last eight.

They’re the first guests at Myreside next weekend, as Edinburgh move their home matches away from Murrayfield for the remainder of the season.

Interim boss Duncan Hodge has overseen four months of maddeningly inconsistent form but has now guided his team to home and away victories over Quins.

  16. 'A monstrously exciting game'published at 17:10 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2017

    Glasgow Warriors v Munster (1730)

    Tom English
    BBC Sport Scotland at Scotstoun

Glasgow v Munster is as close as club rugby gets to Test match stuff. This is huge at Scotstoun.

If Glasgow win they give themselves a very decent chance of making the last eight for the first time. Lose - and they have to go to Welford Road and win. And Leicester have lost just one European game at home in 10 years.

Gregor Townsend's team have to win and they happen to be coming up against one of the form teams in Europe. Munster have conceded just three tries in four games - the lowest in the competition. And look at when they have conceded. They were 31-3 ahead against Glasgow in Limerick when their incredible defence was breached. They were 32-0 ahead against Racing when the French side finally broke through.

This is a team built on power and extraordinary defence; set-piece solidity, consistent ball retention, big ball-carriers (CJ Stander has to be neutralised), a smart kicking game and a huge work-rate. Glasgow have to set the physical agenda here. They have to rattle Munster out of their rhythm.

We know they can do it - but will they? A monstrously exciting game.

As always we would love to hear your thoughts on what is set-up to be a titanic battle.

Can Glasgow Warriors take a huge step towards a little bit of history by beating Munster and edging closer to the quarter-finals for the first time?

Will the Irish side maintain their sensational recent form and seal their spot in the last eight with victory tonight?

With an array of international stars on show, who will step up and be the hero at Scotstoun?

  19. Pool One delicately poisedpublished at 17:06 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2017

    Glasgow Warriors v Munster (1730)

As you will see in the table below, Munster lead the way in Pool One on 16 points having won three of their four matches to date.

Glasgow have also won three games but, having only managed to pick up one bonus point to Munster's four, they are three points back on 13 points.

The pool winners go through to the quarter-finals alongside the top three runners-up from the five pools. Glasgow could feasibly lose tonight and still sneak through in second place, but it would leave them needing a bonus point win away to Leicester on the final day and hoping other results go their way. Realistically they need a win tonight.

Munster for their part could lose tonight and remain top of the table if they claim a losing bonus point (awarded for losing by seven points or less). They also have the relative comfort of knowing they are at home on the final day to Racing 92, who seem to have run up the white flag after Glasgow ended their challenge with back-to-back wins over the French champions. They were walloped on their own patch by Munster last time out and nobody would be surprised if the Irish side put another hefty score on them in the reverse fixture.

Racing host Leicester this evening and a victory for the English side would haul them right into the mix ahead of match-day six.

There are so many permutations in Pool One and across the competition it would make your head burst. Hopefully by tonight the picture will be a little clearer.

  20. Scotstoun showdownpublished at 17:00 Greenwich Mean Time 14 January 2017

    Glasgow Warriors v Munster (1730)

It's a massive weekend of European Champions Cup action, but the big one at Scotstoun looks to be the pick of the matches.

Glasgow Warriors take on Munster knowing that a win will give their hopes of making the knockout stages for the first time a huge boost.

They are going up against a side in devastating form though. Following the tragic death of Munster head coach Anthony Foley in October, the Irish side thrashed Glasgow at Thomond Park to get their Champions Cup campaign up and running. Since then Munster have lost just once in 10 matches in all competitions, that defeat coming courtesy of a last-gasp penalty as they went down to Pool One rivals Leicester at Welford Road.

Given that recent record, it's hard to argue with Warriors head coach Gregor Townsend's assertion that his men are facing the best side in Europe on current form.
